The CodeMeter technology from WIBU-SYSTEMS is used for protection of banking applications of Wincor Nixdorf company.

Wincor Nixdorf is the leading supplier of IT solutions and services for retail banks and commercial enterprises. For protection of the applications developed especially for banking organizations, Wincor Nixdorf uses the solution CrypTA - the hardware and software system constructed on the basis of CodeMeter technology of WIBU-SYSTEMS company. CrypTA consists of two parts – utilities for authentication and the CmStick/M hardware key from additional a flash memory that allows to use a key as the external drive. CrypTA not only protects applications and confidential data, but also provides secure access to the equipment during its service.

Ensuring access control using the strict two-factor authentication on the basis of the password or the PIN code complemented with the unique device – the hardware key was the main requirement of Wincor Nixdorf company to the system of protection of applications.

Thus, for legitimate access to protected applications users should have not only the CmStick/M hardware key, but also the personal password acting as the second authentication factor. The password it is necessary to enter every time at connection of the CmStick/M hardware key. The similar procedure many times over raises the security level: only the user who knows the password can get access to the device and the corresponding applications. The hardware key is activated only at correctly entered password for the period of its connection. At extraction of CmStick/M there is its automatic deactivation thanks to what it is possible to avoid violation of security requirements in case of loss of a key.

Thanks to existence a flash memory in a key, a program part of CrypTA can be completely loaded into CmStick/M. CrypTA is started directly from the corresponding hardware key and does not require preliminary installation of the additional software.

Besides that Wincor Nixdorf protects the software using CodeMeter technology, the company also ensures safety of documents, using the solution SmartShelter|PDF from WIBU-SYSTEMS. For access to protected applications and/or documents the licenses valid only during a certain period are used. For example, the password of the employee of the company becomes invalid in case of his dismissal. After expiration the license can be updated using function of remote programming.
