2019: Attack virus racketeer

At the end of August, 2019 it became known of an attack of a virus racketeer on hundreds of dental clinics in the USA. Those were forced to pay the redemption for decoding of files, however process of recovery takes place slowly. Several days dentists were in forced idle time because of blocking of the computer systems.

The malware under the name REvil (Sodinokibi) was implemented in infrastructure of the DDS Safe service intended for storage and backup of medical records. This solution is developed by Digital Dental Record and PerCSoft companies.

The virus racketeer infected hundreds of dental clinics in the USA

The famous cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs  reported  in the blog reported that malefactors managed to cipher data which were stored on computers about 400 dental clinics. About 80-100 of them it was succeeded to recover work of systems thanks to support of Digital Dental Record and PerCSoft.

However representatives of some affected stomatologiya complain to Facebook that the rasshifrovshchik received for the redemption either did not work at all, or helped to recover not all data. How many paid distributors of a virus, it is not reported.

The head of the CynergisTek company specializing in cybersecurity consulting Caleb Barlow considers that nonserviceability of tools for decoding of data, most likely, is connected with errors which often occur in such programs, but not in desire of criminals to deceive. Encoders are a business, and if hackers do not remove blocking for the redemption, then then will cease to pay them, he noted.

According to Max Henderson (Max Henderson), the senior analyst on security and the head on questions to response to cyberincidents in consulting company Ponderance, the REvil (Sodinokibi) viruses racketeers became one of the most widespread in 2019.
