Dell DR4100

In February, 2013 the Dell company provided DR4100 - the solution of new generation for data backup constructed based on architecture of Fluid Data. It is designed to simplify a problem of creation of backup copies and data recovery and to reduce costs.

The high-performance solution Dell DR4100 is capable to help clients to reduce the capacity, necessary for reservation, to 15 times thanks to the built-in technologies of deduplication and compression. The new solution includes expansion units which allow to increase disk space and to expand possibilities of replication "sets to one" (for increase in disaster tolerance). Besides, it provides broader compatibility with the software thanks to additional certificates of compatibility.

"The companies of all sizes face a task of management of constantly growing amount of data. And often at their order there is no inexpensive and effective solution for creation of backup copies and recovery, - Alan Atkinson, the vice president and the CEO of Dell Storage commented. - To Dell DR4100 it is intended for those who are going to add or replace traditional tape platforms with new faster and reliable disk solution. Dell DR4100 simplifies problems of creation of backup copies and recovery and optimizes resources. Add-on modules of expansion together with the improved mechanisms of deduplication and compression bear to clients simplicity, availability and flexibility at solving of tasks on data protection".

Dell DR4100 differs in simplicity of implementation and service. This disk solution is constructed on the Dell PowerEdge servers of the 12th generation and equipped with the built-in technologies of deduplication and compression. It is designed to reduce the necessary capacity of storage systems significantly. Thanks to unique algorithms of data processing from Ocarina company which purchased Dell customers can get rid of excess copies and reduce requirements to disk space by values up to 93%. The solution executes all operations on data processing, adopting this task from client servers and providing steadily high level of performance.

The new solution can reduce time for control of tape drives or at all get rid of them. Disk storage modules allow to store data longer and provide reliable and fast recovery if necessary. Among opportunities and advantages there is Dell DR4100:

  • Exceed capacity. Customers can add to two expansion units (capacity 9.18 or 27 TB everyone) that provides bigger volume in comparison with alternative solutions.2 Formatted capacity it is possible to increase from 2.7 to 81 TB or up to 1.2 PB of logical space - in process of growth of business and amounts of data which need to be processed. 1
  • The improved disaster tolerance. Fast, daily, deduplitsirovanny replication of data can be executed by means of replication process "sets to one" which supports a replitsirovaniye on one central node from at most 32 remote nodes. It allows to facilitate work of IT employees on reservation of the places given in a set and to cut down capital and current expenses, having saved on restoration systems at remote offices.
  • Support of broader spectrum of software. By Dell DR4100 it is created for work with a broad spectrum of the software for reservation of data, including software from Dell (AppAssure and Quest) and also Symantec, CommVault, Oracle and CA.

The solution Dell DR4100 can be delivered in five initial configurations with a capacity from 2.7 to 27 TB. Technologies of deduplication and compression allow to receive up to 15 times more of logical space. The model of complex licensing of the software allows to cut down storage expenses of data with time by means of replication and other premium functions, such as DR Rapid Data Access and also using new technologies, without additional payment.

Dell DR4000

The DR4000 device contains built-in program and hardware for data protection and integrity checking of the backup copy. The non-volatile memory (NV-RAM) provides data protection in case of power failure and also will beforehand recognize damage to result of fault of the equipment. The target DR4000 device has the RAID 6 configuration, as a result it will be able to continue work even after simultaneous failure of two disks. The program Early Write function executes continuous integrity checking of data.

Function of recovery after failures in DR4000 devices is complemented with replication with deduplication. Replication provides the increased fault tolerance without increase in the operating costs connected with data transfer out of limits of the organization on physical tape media. Accomplishment of replication can be planned for the periods of a minimum load, with purpose of higher priority for the entering data in comparison with data of replication that provides the optimal duration of backup. Deduplication in combination with replication allows to cut down expenses and to exclude the inefficient processes connected with distributed environments of data backup.

DR4000 is the device for fast creation of the backup copy on a disk, protection and data recovery which allows to reduce number of workflows.

Updating to version 1.1

On September 11, 2012 provided to Dell in Moscow the updated line of the DWH, the corporate products manager Anton Banchukov told journalists at a press conference.

In particular upgraded version of a backup system of DR4000 1.1 was provided.


According to Banchukov, growth of unstructured data continues to grow sharply and by 2015 can be 8.5 Tbyte of information. "Annual average growth is about 78%", - he said. "In such conditions loss of information will have deplorable effects".

The backup system allows to deduplitsirovat and squeeze information 15 times faster than other systems, to replicate without rehydration (20 times less than WAN). "A system has a simple control panel, advanced data protection, and the cost of one Gbyte is reduced up to 30 cents", - Banchukov continued.

DR4000 reduces windows of a backup and simplifies IT procedures. "It is based also on Dell Fluid Architecture that allows not to retrain personnel", - Anton Banchukov told.

In Russia well to 4 models of a system: 3.6 Tbyte, 7.2 Tbyte, 12 Tbyte and 24 Tbytes.
