In April, 2017 the Dell EMC company notes the third anniversary since launch of an initiative of Open Networking aimed at the development of the concept of SDN, development and active implementation of open standards.
At the beginning of 2017 N-series switches with high-speed ports PoE, ports of aplinok 40GbE and support of third-party OS using the ONIE tools were announced. The simplified scalability and a possibility of the choice of the operating system when using these switches help to protect investments of customers and to surely increase business.
In March, 2016 Dell EMC began to develop and implement together with Microsoft the modules Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC) within the Open Compute Project (OCP) project to help development of the IT industry and to promote more widespread introduction of open technologies. The software of Dell EMC OS10 Open Edition serves as Basic Element for SONiC. It helps the large and small enterprises to accelerate implementation of the full-function network software Linux on the basis of components open source.
The same year thanks to the OS10 Open Edition Dell EMC operating system made the contribution to the OpenSwitch project representing completely open disaggregated basic subsystem which includes levels of abstraction of the equipment and platforms for network applications of switching. At the end of last year Dell EMC announced the beta of OS10 Enterprise Edition which provides to customers fixed network functions, interfaces and possibilities of execution of scripts and also the Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols, control the politician and the traditional command line interface (CLI) of the network switch. The University of piece Indiana which already published initial results of testing of OS10 Open Edition (OS10 – A First Look) became one of beta testers of OS10 Enterprise Edition.
In January, 2016 submitted to Dell EMC the new version of the network operating system Operating System 10 (OS10) which disaggregates the network software and meets the last requirements to modularity of the open source software. The basic module of this OS10 Open Edition operating system is offered to clients free of charge and works with an open unmodified kernel of Linux.
In 2015 the company expanded partnership in the field of network operating systems with Big Switch Networks, IP Infusion and Pluribus Networks developers and released family of open network switches with connectivities from 1 to 100GbE.
In 2014 released Dell EMC the industry-first "open" network switch using the Open Network Install Environment (ONIE) environment supporting OS Cumulus Linux.
