On February 28, 2019 the Dell EMC company submitted OS for DWH of the middle class of Dell EMC Unity. The Operating Environment 4.5 operating system offers expanded program functions of protection and data management and also additional options of deployment Dell EMC Unity in a cloud.

Expanded end-to-end deduplication

OE 4.5 offers expanded end-to-end dynamic detection of templates which considers all data patterns. Thanks to it amounts of data in file and block storages are reduced up to 2.7 times, noted in Dell EMC.

The optimized control functions by files

According to the developer, the MetroSync Manager application for synchronous replication of files in systems allows to optimize orchestration, increases fault tolerance and provides more detailed synchronous replication of files.

Software for data loss prevention

The software of File Level Retention helps to protect files from modification and removal before the termination of fixed term of storage. It, according to the developer, is especially important for observance of the regulatory requirements ordering longer periods of processing and data storage.

Software-defined DWH with high availability

According to the statement of the developer, the updated Dell EMC Unity operating system offers also built-in means of ensuring of high availability to software-defined DWH of Dell EMC UnityVSA Professional Edition with a capacity of 10, 25 and 50 TB — two nodes, two main cores and the Tie-Breaker node. The Tie-Breaker node (node witness) for Dell EMC UnityVSA is the facilitated third member of a cluster. When touch between two nodes is completely lost, this component does not allow them to pass at the same time into an active status and prevents potential damage of data.

Dell EMC UnityVSA Cloud Edition works in a cloud of AWS

The solution Dell EMC Unity Cloud Edition also allows to unroll a full-function storage system of Dell EMC Unity as the virtual machine in the VMware Cloud cloud environment thanks to compatibility with VMware Cloud on AWS. In upgraded version it is possible to unroll the following components:

• complex file services UFS64 for VMware Cloud,
• cloud recovery tools after failures with the built-in asynchronous replication,
• scalable environments of testing and development without additional

equipment Dell EMC Unity.

Dell EMC Unity systems and VMware Cloud Foundation platform

The compatibility of NFS Dell EMC Unity and VMware Cloud Foundation provides creation of a cloud platform on the basis of own components with cloud infrastructure of Dell EMC Unity. Dell EMC Unity is family of external arrays of storage on the basis of NFS which is compatible to the VMware Cloud Foundation platform.
