Dell PowerEdge VRTX

At the beginning of July, 2013 the Russian partners of Dell opened the order for the PowerEdge VRTX platform - the first complete server solution of the company focused on SMB. According to representatives of the Russian Dell, in addition to small companies PowerEdge VRTX it will be relevant and for branches and remote offices of the large organizations. The greatest demand for a new solution in the company is expected in segments of trade, medicine, education and also in state institutions.

PowerEdge VRTX integrates contains servers,DWH, network and other components in one body. In particular, it contains to four a blade servers of Dell PowerEdge M620 or M520 based on Intel Xeon processors and allows to set to 12 hard drives or SSD drives in a form factor 3.5 inches with a general capacity of 48 TB, or up to 25 drives in a form factor 2.5 inches with a general capacity of 30 TB.

The solution also contains the built-in switch 1GbE with 16 internal ports 1GbE and 8 external ports in a basic equipment and eight slots of PCIe (three full-scale and five semi-format) providing including, support of graphic processors.

Dell says that in PowerEdge VRTX 86% less cables in comparison with "specialized solutions" are used, and a power supply of a system requires network with standard voltage of 100-240 V that "allows to avoid expenses on laying of the cables of high tension which are required usually for servers and DWH".

The solution is proposed in two form factors: Tower - for placement on a floor or on a table, and the chassis 5U high for placement in a server rack. The cost of the solution in the minimum configuration is about 300 thousand rubles, speak in Dell.

At the time of start of sales of PowerEdge VRTX supports only operating environments of Windows. The consultant for infrastructure solutions of Dell in Russia Dmitry Matchin told TAdviser that support of Linux will also be implemented, testing of system operation on this OS is already conducted. From technologies of virtualization at the time of the beginning of sales the solution supports VMware VSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V.
