On January 24, 2023, Rostec announced the creation of the first Russian ultrasound complex for the treatment of cancer. We are talking about the Diater-M system developed by the Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant (refinery) of the Schwabe holding (a subsidiary of Rostec).

According to the press service of Rostec, the technical tests of the Diater-M HIFU complex have been successfully completed. The start of mass production of equipment is scheduled for 2024.

The new complex is intended for the effect of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU therapy) on pathological breast formations. The use of the complex will allow treating tumours of various localisation, characterized by non-invasive character, accuracy and high efficiency of exposure, possibility of repeated use. This type of treatment does not require special training of the patient, safe, allows to perform effective treatment both in the early stages of the tumor process, and in large tumors, metastatic tumors and continued growth of neoplasms after previous treatment. The method can be successfully applied in patients with both malignant and benign tumor processes, localized and common lesions, operable and inoperable patients.

The procedure does not require the use of anesthesia or the administration of potent drugs. HIFU therapy under ultrasound control can be carried out if the patient has metal brackets, nitinol stents, various implants and metal structures. If indicated, the method can be used in combination with chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Diater-M will be used mainly in surgical departments and cancer centers, Rostec said. ^[2]
