2023: Product Announcement
October 12, 2023 the the British telecommunication company BT announced the release of the first specialized ones SIM cards intended for use in unmanned aerial vehicles (). UAV The pieces, called Drone SIM, are said to help "unlock true potential beyond line of drones sight."
When creating Drone SIM, attention was paid primarily to the peculiarities of operation. These cards are capable of withstanding vibration, as well as extreme temperatures and humidity, which allows them to be used at any time of the year. In addition, Drone SIMs are designed to operate at high altitude.
The new type of SIM card will be used in the EE mobile network as part of the BT Group. Customers will benefit from high service priority and ultra-fast connectivity for security, control, telemetry, and ultra-high definition (UHD) video streaming at height. In particular, drones can be used to obtain detailed images of the terrain and video of survey quality for various purposes: from search and rescue operations to checking infrastructure.
Drone SIM products, as noted, also extend the range of drones, which is no longer limited to the coverage of radio frequency channels or Wi-Fi networks. Thanks to the exchange of data through the cellular network, UAVs will be able to remain in constant communication with their operators in any conditions (in the field of coverage). The arrival of Drone SIM is expected to lead to the deployment of new drone-based services. This can be, for example, the delivery of medicines to remote and hard-to-reach regions, monitoring of industrial sites from a bird's eye view, etc.[1]
