Storage systems of EMC CLARiiON will provide high availability, necessary for management, and scalability and consolidation of bigger amount of data.
EMC CLARiiON CX4
The architecture with the built-in technologies of data storage, interfaces, processors, mechanisms of the detailed resource allocation and a security system is specially optimized for infrastructure of VMware and other virtual server environments. Now it will be even simpler to clients of EMC to consolidate information and to manage it with the minimum costs of the electric power.
The CLARiiON CX4 series is the 4th generation of family of network systems of data storage of CLARiiON. Now in the world over 300,000 CLARiiON systems showing record availability quotient "five nine" are used (systems with availability level during 99.999% of all time of operation). Annual 60% growth of amounts of data and permanent rise in price of energy together with reduction of IT budgets set difficult tasks for directors of departments of information technologies. In storage systems of the CLARiiON CX4 series the set of the new technologies optimized for virtual server environments (including infrastructure of VMware), and energy consumption, to increase the efficiency of use of drives, computing powers and management systems that in addition protects investments into storage systems allowing to reduce is built-in.
Special attention is deserved by the following aspects:
- In comparison with the predecessors the new CLARiiON systems provide double performance improvement of applications and also double increase in capacity, memory and number of disk volumes (LUN) that allows to organize support of several levels of applications based on one array of CLARiiON CX4. Such progress managed to achieve at the expense of new 64-bit operating environment of EMC CLARiiON FLARE® working based on multi-core processors of Intel and the different highest performance and the doubled scalability level (up to 960 disks) providing the maximum potential for consolidation of data.
- Support of two-legal storage area networks (SAN) of the Fibre Channel and iSCSI with a possibility of operational expansion — a unique feature for all similar systems. The new EMC UltraFlex™ technology allows to supply the CLARiiON CX4 series with new interfaces, for example 8 Gbps of the Fibre Channel, 10 Gbps of iSCSI and FCoE (A Fibre Channel based on Ethernet). Besides, CLARiiON CX4 Series with UltraFlex allows to increase as much as possible flexibility of environments of VMware due to support of dynamic adding of input/output ports (and also drives and computing powers) in virtual infrastructure.
- It is the first array of the middle class in the market supporting the latest solid state drives (SSD) on performance by 30 times the exceeding traditional disks. Search time of data on the drives SSD makes less than one millisecond (!), at the same time they consume 98% less electric power counting on the same number of input-output operations per second (IOPS). Adding of the disks Flash in the systems of the CLARiiON CX4 series provides the highest performance level meeting the requirements to storage systems of "level 0". Earlier this year EMC became the first developer of corporate systems of data storage who turned on the disks SSD in the basic solution portfolio: for the first time these disks began to be applied in the systems of the highest level Symmetrix® DMX Series.
- The mechanisms of virtual resource management allowing to raise load factor of systems and to simplify distribution of drives by providing to the administrator an opportunity to select bigger amount of memory under applications than under them it is selected physically. The new functionality of CLARiiON for virtual resource management simply allows to distribute and quickly amounts of memory of physical servers, servers of VMware and other virtual servers while function of monitoring and automatic issue of warnings allows to expand a memory pool online. The EMC company for the first time provided mechanisms of virtual resource management in EMC Celerra® storage systems based on IP networks.
- The built-in systems of a stop of disks which are automatically transferring hard drives to a standby mode and activating them on demand — this functionality is important in terms of power saving. This technology for the first time offered in the delivery of virtual tape EMC Disk Library is focused on applications of which the regular periods of complete or partial failure to act are characteristic. Politicians are applied to management of this technology.
- Adaptive construction of the cooling system and support function of the new terabyte disks SATA with low energy consumption. Thanks to this new cooling system the amount of the spent energy is considerably reduced, fans of systems cooling function so that to maintain necessary temperature. New disks with smaller speed consume 32% less electric power on a terrabyte of data in comparison with the normal disks SATA.
- Integration about VMware Site Recovery Manager and formation of the simple universal solution for VMware Disaster Recovery. Besides, in CLARiiON CX4 the new features of continuous remote and local replication (CLR) for EMC RecoverPoint/SE simplifying deployment in the Fibre Channel and iSCSI environments and allowing to optimize load of network are used.
- Integration into the RSA enVision® platform for ensuring comprehensive automatic control of data of events and achievement of the maximum level of security for the solution of a problem of compliance to regulatory requirements. The CLARiiON CX4 system is also integrated with a management system for ways of EMC PowerPath® in which the technology of key management of RSA is integrated. This system allows to cipher and decode data by their transfer to an array and from an array.
The CLARiiON CX4 series consists of four modules supported by all systems of replication and management of CLARiiON including EMC Navisphere® Management Suite, EMC MirrorView™, EMC SnapView™, EMC SAN Copy™ and other products. The following new models are produced:
