EMC RecoverPoint is the hardware and software system allowing to create an unlimited number of backup copies with the minimum interval and to provide instant data recovery for the moment preceding failure and as locally, and with replication.

RecoverPoint 4.0

At the end of April, 2013 EMC submitted the new version of the hardware-software solution for remote replication of data of RecoverPoint providing a continued access to information, critical for business, in cases of major accidents and accidents. As the company claims, the RecoverPoint prefixes now installed at her customers totally protect more than 800 PB of data, and total time of their work already exceeded 100 million hours.

In the version of RecoverPoint 4.0 performance of asynchronous replication improved for 60% up to 400 Mbps, the maximum capacity for which replication is supported grew from 300 Tb to 2 PB, and the maximum number of logical volumes in a cluster which can protect RecoverPoint, increased to 8000. Besides, in the new version purely program option of the virtual virtual RecoverPoint Appliance (vRPA) prefix for disk arrays of the middle class of EMC VNX allowing to implement remote replication in already constructed geographically distributed infrastructure of data storage based on VNX is implemented (earlier for implementation of RecoverPoint it was necessary to set hardware prefixes which significantly increased the total cost of the solution EMC).

One more important improvement of RecoverPoint 4.0 is the integration with the technology of data protection used in arrays of the senior class EMC Symmetrix VMAX from accidents of Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) allowing to apply at the same time to one logical volume of LUN of these storage systems continuous data protection (CDP) and remote copying. As tells EMC, now owners of Symmetrix VMAX will be able quickly to recover the data which were damaged as as a result both errors of the operator, and failures in operation of the equipment of an array.

Also in the new version of RecoverPoint it is implemented possibilities of replication of one logical volume in four remote DPCs and synchronous replication on IP networks at once that reduces costs for the communication channels used for the implementing solutions CDP.
