The Eaton company, the expert in the field of management of energy, announced in the summer of 2014 start of sales of third generation (G3) of blocks of load distribution for racks (ePDU). These devices combine the efficiency, best in the class, and reliability with such technical innovations as the fixers protected by the patent for cables connected to IEC standard sockets.
Products of ePDU G3 series are specially designed according to requirements to power distribution on IT loadings in modern DPCs. Some models are supplied with displays for expanded control of parameters of power supply. In EMEA region (Europe, Asia, the Middle East) a series at first will be available in three versions. The first, Basic, provides only reliable distribution of energy, the second, In-Line Metered, allows to measure, in addition to functionality of Basic, tension (B), power (W), current (A) and energy (kWh) on ePDU input. And, at last, the version of Metered Input which provides strain measurement (B), capacities (W), current (A) and energy (kWh) not only for all ePDU, but also for separate groups of sockets.
All new ePDU, including the Basic models, are equipped with the unique fixer for forks of IEC preventing loss of forks from sockets because of breakthroughs and vibrations which can lead to serious effects. Besides, the fixer works with standard cables that eliminates the need for special cords of a power supply and cable fastenings because of which the total cost of a system of power distribution can increase in a rack almost twice.

They really set new standards of electric power distribution in racks and contribute significantly to ensuring smooth operation where they were used".
In addition, new ePDU G3 models are capable to work continuously at a temperature up to 60 ° C that allows to use them in the modern DPCs which are characterized by very high heat release. Thanks to the small height of construction (0U), new blocks of load distribution occupy a minimum of space and can be used in racks of any type. The possibility of installation sideways or behind guarantees easy access to the IT equipment in a rack, and fastening using round fixers or a unique flexible mounting system provides simple and fast installation.
For load control simplification all ePDU G3 models, including Basic, have color coding of groups of the sockets corresponding to group switches. The Metered Input and In-Line Metered models have the graphics LCD display which menu facilitates connection of the equipment and diagnostics. Also these versions of devices provide measurement of consumption with an accuracy of ±1% for control of drawing of accounts for the electric power.
EPDU G3 models with the network interface allow to use software of Eaton Intelligent Power™ Manager for automatic detection, monitoring, group updating and configuring of ePDU and also for integration into virtualization platforms, including VMware™ and vCenter Server™. The patented technology of shleyfovy connection allows to connect to four ePDU to one port of network of the Internet protocol (IP), providing economy to 75% in comparison with normal blocks of distribution which are connected through certain ports.
2015: Eaton brings three ePDU models to the market of EMEA
On July 23, 2015 the Eaton company provided three models of rack-mounted units of electric power distribution (ePDU) - Metered outlet, Switched outlet and Managed outlet.
Models are equipped with the functions providing bigger control over the equipment, allowing IT specialists to trace and control energy consumption of the equipment precisely.
Except measurement and switching of separate sockets, their grouping on IT equipment components is available now, i.e. measurement of consumption and switching of the equipment between the phases A and B is possible. It means that the user will gain clearer idea of energy consumption of the equipment and the power available in their data processing centers.
The solution Eaton helps to save time as it will be much easier for users to control certain transactions, such as remote reset and the planned switching off.
The ePDU models with measurement of the power (Metered outlet) of Eaton company allow to control locally and far off energy consumption of the IT equipment and to define where it is possible to save the electric power. Besides, as measuring instruments have high accuracy, indications can be used by regular operators of a data processing center for allocation of costs between divisions of the company. Besides, indications can be shared also by operators of the placed data processing centers for individual charge to clients of a payment for the electric power.
Switched blocks of electric power distribution contain functions of measurement and allow to include and power off separate servers far off. This important means of increase in efficiency by means of which servers in which there is no need can be switched-off. Besides, it is possible to plan switching off of the minor equipment when in it there is no need.
Managed blocks of electric power distribution combine functions of measurement of the electric power and switching of the equipment. They provide independent measurement and switching for each separate socket or a part of the IT equipment. Detailed information on energy consumption is useful to increase in efficiency and reduction of a downtime.

Observation of all blocks of electric power distribution of third generation and management of them can be executed by means of the software of Intelligent Power Manager of Eaton company. It is easily integrated with control panels virtualization. The models connected on network allow software users to detect, trace, update and configure automatically at the same time several blocks of electric power distribution. All product line has compact construction 0U, fastening of a fork of eGrip (the patent application is submitted) and maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
Devices can be built in the Intelligent Power Pod system from Eaton company which represents an end-to-end system of infrastructure of power supply for modern IT applications, including convergent and hyper convergent infrastructures.
Products of the company are available in Europe, in the Middle East and in Africa (EMEA region).
