EduMandriva

The Mandriva.ru company and the EduMandriva project announced in December, 2011 a release of the new version of a distribution kit for education — EduMandriva 2011. EduMandriva 2011 is based on the latest version of the Mandriva Linux distribution kit and includes completions, patches and the additional software necessary for use of GNU/Linux in the Russian average and secondary vocational education.

EduMandriva includes software, necessary for information science lessons for school students of all age, software for creativity (software for work with audio and video, graphic software) and for maintenance of educational process. It is important to note that distribution kits include the preconfigured client of the software for control of computers of pupils of iTalk allowing to broadcast the screen of the computer of the teacher on computers of pupils, to communicate far off to start programs, etc. (Radmin analog).

Within the project russification of a number of applications was finished (editors of HTML Kompozer, the keyboard Klavaro exercise machine, the WxMaxima environment and others), errors in applications are corrected. All softwares, finished within the EduMandriva project, it is possible to receive as as a part of the EduMandriva distribution kits, and separately, having loaded them from official repositories and a repository of EduMandriva (by software it is adapted for the Mandriva Linux 2011 distribution kits).

The EduMandriva distribution kit is available in two basic options:

• EduMandriva 2011 KDE4 DVD is the most complete version of the EduMandriva distribution kit based on the modern graphical environment KDE 4 occupying 1 DVD. This version requires the modern computer (800 MB of OZU above, 10 GB of an empty seat on a disk are recommended)
• EduMandriva 2011 LXDE CD is the "easy" version for weak computers based on the graphical environment LXDE working also in the LiveCD mode — without installation on the hard drive of the computer, directly from a disk. For work of this version the computer from 256 MB of RAM suffices.

Among the additional applications included in EduMandriva it is possible to note:

• Software for programmers is Free Pascal and integrated development environments for it of Geany and Lazarus (Delphi analog), Scratch - the development environment on the basis of Logo intended for fast mastering by children of bases of programming and creation of animated films and interactive computer games, an algorithmic programming language the IDOL, implementations of BASIC — FreeBasic and Basic256
• office applications — the CuneiForm OCR system, the LibreOffice office suite, the StarDict dictionary and the preset browser of PDF,
• graphics editors — TuxPaint, Gpaint, Gimp, Inkscape,
• a system for conducting testing of iTest,
• applications for younger school students and preschool children — the environment of training of children of 3-10 years Gcompris and a set of educational applications and the games Kdeedu.

According to Alexander Kazantsev, the head of educational projects of Mandriva.Ru, - "this version continues development of a line of Edumandriva, combining a usual set of the software and convenience of work with fresh versions of programs and the improved user interface. The EduMandriva distribution kit is developed by teachers for teachers thanks to what EduMandriva 2011 included all the best of the world of the free software, and packets are finished for use in Russian education and integrated into a single system. I will note that having selected for the educational institution Mandriva 2011, the teacher of information science directly from a box receives very wide set of applications which completely meets requirements of educational standards."
