In September, 2019 the China Eastern Airlines company released as approves airline, the first-ever electronic label for registration and tracking of baggage in the smartphone.
The luggage label without battery which was developed by China Eastern Airlines together with partners allows passengers to undergo registration procedure of baggage of the house or on the way to the airport through the application on mobile phones, the general manager of global supervisory center of baggage with department of land service of China Eastern Airlines of Shen Chenyi explained.
The electronic label is supplied with the screen on which information on the passenger and run is displayed. For activation of a label the passenger needs to touch it with the smartphone, and the chip which is built in a label will allow the owner to trace baggage using the application.
The airline will free of charge release 4000 luggage labels. Passengers can report that they are interested in use of a product, using the China Eastern application. Owners of the platinum China Eastern card can submit the application for an electronic label in cash desks, other passengers should be registered in the application of airline. The priority will be given to the passengers who are often traveling between Shanghai and Beijing.
So far electronic labels of China Eastern Airlines can be used only on direct runs between the international airport of Shanghai by Hongqiao and the international airport of Beijing Capital. China Eastern Airlines is going to expand further a scope of these services, first of all at the new international airport Dasin in Beijing.
Meanwhile, other airlines do not lag behind the Shanghai carrier. Air France announced that since 2020 the baggage checked on racks of the airport Paris Roissy-Charles de Gaulle will be marked with the RFID chip which will help to trace it throughout all trip. The project is implemented in cooperation with the airport.[1]
