2021: Announcement of ultrasound instrument for quantitative determination of liver fat

On November 16, 2021, Philips announced the release of ultrasound tools designed to improve the treatment of patients with liver disease in the early stages. They are designed to quantify liver fat. Now radiologists armed with IPIQ Elite and Affiniti ultrasound scanners will be able to more easily assess the progression of liver diseases, while reducing costs and expanding patients' access to sonography, this is a method of research on the snimkam‎ when an ultrasound sensor directs ultrasound into the human body.

As Philips' ultrasound unit CEO Jeff Cohen clarified in a statement, affordable quantification of liver fat through ultrasound is a screening and early diagnosis tool that will allow far more patients to take their health into their own hands by making simple changes to their lifestyle.

With traditional gray scale imaging, we could only tell if the liver had a high degree of fat infiltration or if it was normal, but it was very difficult to assess whether fatty liver disease was mild, moderate, or severe. Attenuation imaging now gives us a numerical value that will allow us to monitor the actual performance of patients for a long time, said Richard G. Fatty liver disease remains the most common form of chronic liver disease and early detection of signs of this disease is crucial for possibly reversing the progression of the disease and moving it to other more dangerous stages. The new tool will also help technologists gain access to real-time recommendations and decision support mechanisms, which will increase diagnostic accuracy and simplify work processes, as stated by the company.

Liver obesity is often long without complaints and asymptomatic. Changes in the liver are often detected by medical professionals during a routine examination, especially in people with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, endocrine disorders. At the same time, many experts note such symptoms: increased fatigue, weakness, nausea, meteorism, stool disorders, blunt pain and severity in the right undergrowth.[1]

2020: Philips unveils ultrasound system for child screening

In early May 2020, Philips introduced the updated Philips EPIQ Elite ultrasound diagnostic system. The scanner is adapted for examinations of children.

The developers believe that the new solution will allow pediatricians to quickly and accurately establish a diagnosis thanks to high-quality images and high throughput. The new system combines special converters, advanced image processing tools and software tools optimized for diagnosing children.

The Philips EPIQ Elite system includes a sensor for examining children, which provides deeper penetration of ultrasound waves (30% deeper than in previous models) and allows you to obtain more detailed images. In addition, experts have developed a special procedure for examining children, which helps clinicians to quickly and accurately conduct diagnostics.

The developers also note that children are more radiosensitive than adults, and a new examination will reduce the need for additional stages of diagnostic imaging, such as radioscopy.

The updated Philips EPIQ Elite system is available worldwide by May 7, 2020, with the exception of China and several other countries.[2]

2019: Announcement

In early February 2019, Philips Healthcare released a new family of premium ultrasonic devices called Epiq Elite. The scanner is available in two versions: a general imaging apparatus adapted for vascular examination, and an apparatus for use in obstetrics and gynecology.

The Epiq Elite platform for general visualization includes the Ultimate Ultrasound Vascular Assessment Solution package, which combines 3D and 4D images and allows easy detection of lesion progression. Philips also simplifies the workflow with additional tools for monitoring and evaluating vascular diseases.

Thus, using xMatrix company's sensors, users can obtain three-dimensional images of vessels and evaluate their spatial location. The scanner also includes a xPlane mode that allows clinicians to view the image in two planes at once to improve the accuracy of data collection and reduce examination time by 20%.

Philips introduced the Epiq Elite family of premium ultrasound machines

The Epiq Elite midwife machine includes new sensors and software that meet the specific needs of obstetricians-gynaecologists, especially when examined in the early stages of pregnancy. For example, V9-2 is a light, ergonomic high-frequency converter based on PureWave technology or image processing mode TrueVue that allows doctors to manipulate a virtual light source around three-dimensional images of the fetus for better visualization.

In addition, both Epiq Elite devices are equipped with the Philips aBiometry Assist application, using the so-called "anatomical intelligence." The app automates routine measurements, reducing examination time and allowing doctors to pay more attention to patients.[3]
