Ericsson Radio System is a building scalable solution for creation of a radio access network (Radio Access Network/RAN). As a part of the solution — hardware, the software and services providing support of all types of the area and traffic and also expected possible increase in scales and difficulties of networks 2G, 3G 4G and 5G.

2018: Release of software of a 5G of Radio Access Network
The Ericsson company in February, 2018 announced release of the commercial software of a 5G of Radio Access Network (RAN) working based on the first standard 5G New Radio (NR) approved by consortium 3GPP.
The software of Ericsson Radio System for 5G networks which will be available since the fourth quarter 2018 provides I will support several frequency ranges that allows to develop networks in the different countries of the world.
Software for mobile networks 5G supplements the solutions for digital modules of base stations presented earlier. Thus, it is enough to operators to activate a 5G technology in the networks to take the first step on the way to commercial start and release of applications 5G working based on the improved data transmission on the cellular network claim in the company. In turn, it will allow to optimize processing of the growing traffic of data and to provide to users access to a multimedia content using a streaming video in format 4K/8K, the virtual and complemented realities.
According to the research of economic aspects of use of the improved MShPD conducted by Ericsson, transition to a 5G will provide reduction of cost of data transmission counting on 1 GB by 10 times in comparison with 4G networks.
Solutions for wireless data transmission are supplemented with the commercial software for a 5G core — Core 5G, optimized taking into account indicators of capacity, capacity and scalability of 5G networks. During 2018 Ericsson will enter improvements to the solutions Packet Core and Unified Data Management for ensuring support of services of fifth generation. In process of development of standard 3GPP 5G these solutions can be upgraded due to implementation of new features.
