Exalt Model D (duodenoscope)

In the middle of December, 2019 Boston Scientific presented as the company claims, the first-ever disposable Exalt Model D duodenoscope for use in endoscopic procedures of retrograde cholangiopancreatography.

Reusable duodenoscopes undergo strict disinfection between applications for different patients, and the vast majority of procedures with these devices is performed safely and effectively. However in certain cases infections after all were transmitted from the patient to the patient through the contaminated devices, despite observance of the set protocols. Therefore regulatory bodies called producers of medical tools and medical societies for cooperation.

Exalt Model D for use in endoscopic procedures of retrograde cholangiopancreatography

The disposable Exalt Model D duodenoscope became one of solutions - he does not demand repeated processing and repair and allows doctors to use the new sterile device for each procedure. Boston Scientific claims that control of the disposable duodenoscope is exercised as well as normal tools therefore doctors are familiar with this system.

Completely sterile Exalt Model D duodenoscope provides access to upper department of digestive tract of the patient for visualization and diagnostics of violations from biliary tract and other diseases - in the same way as the traditional duodenoscope. However unlike normal tools which hardly give in to cleaning and can have infections from the patient to the patient, the disposable duodenoscope is deprived of such risks.

The limited commercial release of the Exalt Model D duodenoscope is planned in the first quarter 2020. Regulatory bodies already issued recommendations for endoscopists in which insistently urge doctors to use disposable duodenoscopes or tools with disposable components.^[1]
