2025: Product Announcement
Team Group has released a 2 TB Expert P35S portable SSD with a hardware button for complete data destruction. This became known in May 2025 in Taipei.
A key feature of the new solid state drive is the hardware button to delete all data from memory with a guarantee that it cannot be restored. Pressing the button physically breaks the memory chip at the hardware level.
The information protection mechanism works without connecting to a computer. To prevent accidental operation, the device has a fuse in the form of a protective shutter. After activation, the protective cover can be quietly returned to its original position.
Expert P35S delivers read speeds of up to 1000MB/s with the 10Gb/s USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 interface. The manufacturer did not disclose the speed of the drive.
The dimensions of the device are 90x40x18 mm with a weight of 42 grams due to the plastic case. Team Group positions Expert P35S as one of the smallest portable SSDs in the world.
The company did not disclose the timing of the start of sales and the recommended price of the novelty. The Expert P35S presentation took place at Computex 2025 in Taiwan.
The hardware method of data destruction is considered more reliable than software alternatives. Existing SSDs and flash drives with an emergency formatting button require connection to a PC, and data after formatting can often be restored.
Drive manufacturers have developed many information protection technologies by 2025, but most of them are based on data encryption. Kingston releases AES encryption flash drives, where after three incorrect password entries, the information is erased.
Modern artificial intelligence algorithms have learned to bypass many encryption algorithms. This reduces the effectiveness of this method of data protection compared to hardware destruction of media.[1]
