2019: Application launch for video surveillance using the smartphone

On November 21, 2019 the Faceter company announced start in Russia of the mobile application of the same name for mass users which allows to turn the smartphone into the surveillance camera, to browse online broadcasting and a videoarchive in a cloud. Access to a video flow can be got through the web interface or through the same application on other smartphone.

Some of Faceter methods of application, offered by the developer:

  • The application is useful to parents with small children — it will replace the surveillance camera (video nurse) when the child sleeps in other room or remains with the nurse.
  • Motorists can use the smartphone as the video recorder for monitoring of everything that there are on the road and protection in disputable situations.
  • To the one who looks after the sick relative of Faceter will help to do not pass the moment when the help is necessary.
  • The application is useful in all cases when it is necessary to protect expensive property. For example, will allow to observe in real time how whether there is a repair in the apartment and all on site that is done by furniture assemblers or the housekeeper when the owner is in other room or left the house.

Technology cooperation with SONM

On November 1 Faceter and SONM, the distributed platform of calculations organized by the principle of mining announced the joint project. The companies will test work of algorithms Faceter for face recognition and the intellectual analysis of a video flow from surveillance cameras at the computing distributed SONM IaaS powers, will conduct research and development to create the solution ready for an output to the market.

Faceter expects that use of fog computing (distributed computing) will allow to reduce costs for computing infrastructure considerably. They make essential item of expenditure on accomplishment of difficult algorithms of machine vision which are the cornerstone of an online service of Faceter. According to calculations of the company, the cost of calculations in "foggy" infrastructure can be many times less, than in public clouds, such as AWS, Azure and others. If to assume that the miners which are switched on in the decentralized network will prefer to increase income by 20%, then costs for infrastructure will be [1]:

  • Amazon of $576 Costs for 4 servers with GPU NVidia Tesla K80 (p2.xlarge configuration) rented in AWS
  • SONM $45 of Costs for one computing SONM node with GPU NVIDIA 1080 TI (30Mh/s)

[Chernitsky Vladimir]], the co-founder and the technical director of Faceter comments: "Distributed computing will allow to reduce significantly costs for the infrastructure necessary for accomplishment of resource-intensive algorithms deep learning. Thanks to it we are going to offer opportunities of face recognition and the event analysis of a video flow at the price which will be available even to individual users with the simplest home cameras connected to the Internet".

Advantage of fog computing also that this approach allows to save a possibility of fast scaling that it can be necessary in case of significant increase in demand for solution SaaS of Faceter. "It, for example, can occur if our client started a marketing campaign and received big inflow of buyers to shop. Or, if the organizer of a mass event, for example, of a concert or a sports event was for a certain period of time connected to service. Together with a professional team of experts of SONM we already created the step-by-step plan of creation of the commercial solution for start of Faceter for fog computing".

The period of developments and researches in the joint project should come to the end until the end of the current year therefore the beta of solution SaaS of Faceter for mass consumers working in a distributed infrastructure will be released. The full alpha of a product for individual users and small business will appear in the middle of 2018.

Thus, costs even on the most resource-intensive calculations are significantly lower, than when using public cloud services".]

SONM develops MVP (minimal viable product) of a system for start on test network of 'air' then start on the main network in July-August, 2018 is planned.

Official entry into the Russian market

In October, 2017 it became known that Faceter, the software product for intellectual video surveillance, officially enters the Russian market. The technology is based on use of neural networks for face recognition and use of approach of event security. The company starts sales of a product for business users. In the first quarter 2018 there will be a version for mass consumers based on the decentralized calculations (fog computing). The crowdfunding campaign will be for this purpose started.

Target audience

Business clients and public services can apply Faceter to access control in offices, specialized premises and the closed territories. The solution can be also used for identification of events of security and the notification about them, for increase in solvability of crimes, thanks to a search capability on archives of videos of the recognizable person. Besides, Faceter can be applied to more effective management of personnel, increase in a customer loyalty and improvement of relationship with them (detection of queues, the analysis of attendance of shops, etc.).

Home users using Faceter will receive notifications on the smartphone about return of family members home, arrival of assistants (nurses, gardeners, etc.), detection of strangers near the dwelling. A system can be customized on detection of sources of ignition, identification of non-standard noise and other events. In the long term Faceter can become a part of 'the smart house' and interact with other attached devices.

Technology and project plans

The test version of Faceter was developed at the beginning of 2017 as a system for corporate users who want to use more fully possibilities of video surveillance for increased security and also improvement of customer relations and more effective management of employees. Pilot projects showed readiness of a product for an output to the market and received positive assessment of potential clients. The first corporate users of Faceter - one of the largest networks of casino, network of pizzerias, the largest bank of the Republic of South Africa. The product is successfully tested in the cameras Axis that is confirmed with the manufacturer's certificate of origin. At the moment Faceter is ready for application in business and in systems used by public services.

Faceter is founded by partners who already created earlier the successful project - opensource library for recognition of bank cards of pay.cards. The library was downloaded at the moment by 25,000 times. Every day the commercial product with its use is started.

Chernitsky Vladimir, the co-founder and CTO Faceter, says: 'Faceter is based on use of the accumulated experience and already available developments which together with a command we created in the previous project, well-known to professional community - pay.cards. In the future we are going to expand product capabilities of Faceter and to make an intelligent system of event security which will be capable to distinguish the occurring situations on its basis and to reveal potentially dangerous, analyzing chains of events'. Vladimir is engaged in programming of 20 years; research and development connected with use of neural networks for recognition of visual images - it is more than four years.

In the first quarter 2018 start of the beta for mass consumers which will be constructed on the decentralized infrastructure on fog computing technology is planned. This technology allows to reduce considerably costs for infrastructure and to offer service at the affordable price. Detection of objects, recognition of emotions and a voice, identification of non-standard noise, reaction to chains of events and other functions will be added. The solution will extend on a subscription - according to the SaaS model with monthly or annual payment.

For further development of a product and release of the version of Faceter for mass consumers in December, 2017 the command will begin a crowdfunding campaign, having released investment tokens on a basis a blockchain. At the moment personal means of $1.2 million were invested in creation of Faceter.

The last 5 years the market of video surveillance shows annual growth in 15.4% and according to the forecast of Markets & Markets by 2022 will reach volume in $75 billion. Analysts turn on in this sales forecast of the equipment, the software and providing services. Founders of the company are sure that intellectual software will become an obligatory component of video surveillance systems in the next 5-7 years and will make 5-10% of the total amount of this market.
