2024: First Use

On December 16, 2024, the biotech company Gameto, specializing in women's health, announced that the world's first person born using Fertilo's advanced technology was born. It is argued that this event represents a historical milestone in reproductive medicine.

With traditional in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures for egg maturation, women have to undergo a course of hormonal stimulation lasting from 10 to 14 days. In the case of Fertilo technology, engineered young ovarian cells are used to recreate the natural process of egg maturation in a laboratory setting. This approach replaces 80% of hormonal injections required in IVF and reduces the duration of therapy to just three days. As a result, side effects are reduced, and the emotional and physical stress of patients is minimized.

IVF revolution: First baby born outside woman from eggs matured in lab

As noted by Dr. Dina Radenkovic, CEO and co-founder of Gameto, the Fertilo method provides a faster, safer and more affordable solution for families who want to have a baby with reproductive medicine. The new technology has shown promising results, including improving women's health.

The possibility of maturing eggs outside the body with minimal hormonal intervention significantly reduces risks such as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and mitigates side effects caused by high doses of hormones. Fertilo is a great achievement for women who do not want to be subjected to the burden of the traditional IVF method, says Dr. Luis Guzmán, head of Pranor Labs & Science, who oversaw the birth of their first child using Fertilo.[1]
