The product was developed by specialists of the Force Technical Support Center on the basis of its own algorithm for quick collection of statistics and graphical representation of its interpretation in the context of all components of systems on the PostgreSQL platform. Requests are monitored during their execution. The performance panel provides an overview of the workload and inventory of database and operating systems resources.
The peculiarity of PGARM is that it functions without affecting or modifying the database engine. When the product is activated, the performance of the PostgreSQL instance is reduced by only 3-4%, which is quite a bit, given the advantages that the product gives.
PGARM can be useful for monitoring and diagnosing any systems that use PostgreSQL. The greatest return can be obtained from it if there are problems with the performance of the DBMS instance and you cannot find their cause in other ways. The company noted that in the case of applications critical for business, even a slight slowdown is already a reason to think about using specialized tools. Installing only one PGARM application allows you to quickly identify the cause of incorrect database operation and give recommendations for its elimination.
The tool was tested, the results of which showed that the application promptly displays a set of database performance indicators necessary to analyze their performance, allows you to identify the main reason for the decline in performance and reduce the time to identify possible problems.
The product is constantly developing: since the release of the original version, it has been possible to significantly increase the stability of the application and improve the graphical interface. Now the dashboards and graphics of the client part of the application have become even more visual and convenient to use. In the future, it is planned to create a trace file handler and release an Enterprise version of the application, which will implement the ability to centrally store and aggregate data. In this version, PGARM clients will act as agents interacting with the management server - send statistics on the functioning of the DBMS instance to the central repository, receive and execute control commands.
