2025: Recall due to steering problem

In late May 2025, the National Highway Traffic Safety USA Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall of Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks due to a steering problem. A defect can lead to deterioration or loss of control while driving, which increases the likelihood of a traffic accident.

The problem is related to an insufficiently tightened nut, due to which the front upper suspension lever can be disconnected from the swivel knuckle. Drivers of defective vehicles can notice the vibration of the car, as well as hear banging or rattling while driving. If the lever is completely disconnected, motorists may lose control of the car. There is information about accidents related to the defect and at least one claim for damages.

29,501 Ford F-150 Lightning pickup trucks are subject to recall, including 20,528 units of the 2024 model range and 8,973 cars of the 2025 model range. The automaker notes that the cause of the defect may be a change in the alignment or orientation of the fastening tool during the production of vehicles.

Ford dealers will check the torque of the lever nuts and, if necessary, replace them, as well as replace the swivel fist. All work will be carried out free of charge for vehicle owners.

The Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck is equipped with two electric motors and an all-wheel drive system. Power reaches 580 horsepower. A 98 or 131 kVt·ch battery pack is installed, providing a range of up to 390 and 510 km, respectively. The dimensions of the car are 5911 × 2032 × 1989 mm, the wheelbase is 3696 mm. The curb weight varies from 2.7 to 3.1 tons, depending on the configuration.[1]
