2021: As part of a remote security solution
On November 12, 2021, Fortinet announced the launch of a solution that allows organizations to ensure the safety of remote work from anywhere in the world. By combining a portfolio of Zero Trust, endpoint, and network security solutions within Fortinet Security Fabric, Fortinet provides security, services, and threat analytics that seamlessly follow users on the go, at home, or in the office, delivering enterprise-level security and productivity. These capabilities are designed to take into account the peculiarities of doing business in the era of working from anywhere.
Seamless movement between different work environments is critical to maintaining user productivity and security. Cybercriminals quickly learned how to use surface expansion attacks and the appearance of gaps that arose as a result of changing the format of work in order to penetrate into corporate networks. |
According to the company, the COVID-19 pandemic was the factor that accelerated the work model from anywhere. Gartner's forecast analysis shows that by the end of 2024, a change in the nature of work will lead to an increase in the total market for remote workers to 60% of all employees, compared to 52% in 2020. Also, according to Gartner, organizations face a hybrid future, with 75% of hybrid or remote knowledge employees saying their expectations for flexibility have increased. At the same time, multi-stage complex attacks, such as ransomware, are increasingly hitting organizations.
According to the FortiGuard Labs report on the global cyber threat landscape for the first half of the year, the number of incidents using ransomware increased by almost 1100% from June 2020 to June 2021. And in a recent global study by Fortinet, 67% of organizations reported that they were victims of ransomware attacks. In 2021, remote and hybrid work is in the status quo, and cybercriminals will continue to use the capabilities of this extended attack surface. To confront changes in employment and threat landscape, businesses must apply a "work from anywhere" approach to their security by deploying solutions that can monitor, access, and protect users wherever they are.
Whether users are on a business trip, in the office, or at home, they access applications from the cloud, data center, or SaaS. Due to this continuous flow, it is important that zero trust systems, endpoints, and network security are combined with a common set of APIs and integration points so that users can easily move from one place to another.
Here's how Fortinet provides three options for using a remote model from anywhere in the world:
- Travel: Users working outside the office or primary remote workplace (and the multi-level security they provide) are potentially exposed to threats when connecting to applications and resources needed to work through unknown and often unprotected networks and locations. This allows cybercriminals to look at OpenCom or carry out attacks from insufficiently protected devices. Fortinet offers an integrated combination of:
- Endpoint Protection: EPP, EDR, XDR (FortiEDR, FortiXDR)
- FortiClient FortiOS FortiGate FortiAuthenticator* Zero Trust Access: ZTNA ( , , ) + Identity ( , FortiToken)
- Network Security: SASE (FortiSASE Remote)
- Work from home: Remote employees, as well as those who work in hybrid format, usually enter the system from a specific remote place where there is an infrastructure for working, for example, a monitor, a home network, an external webcam and a microphone. However, home networks are full of unprotected IoT devices, as well as other users who can consume bandwidth while reducing the performance of streaming video or online games. They are also often outside the security and control of the corporate network. To provide managed enterprise security for home users, Fortinet offers an integrated combination of:
- Endpoint Protection: EPP, EDR, XDR (FortiEDR, FortiXDR)
- Zero Trust Access: ZTNA (FortiClient, FortiOS, FortiGate) + Identity (FortiAuthenticator, FortiToken)
- Network Security: Linksys HomeWRK for Business Secured by Fortinet
- Office: Even if users work in locations managed by an organization that provides network capabilities and employee security, endpoint protection remains an important part of the organization's tiered protection. Cybercriminals can exploit vulnerabilities or compromise a third party, thus being able to circumvent corporate security. Fortinet servers offers an integrated combination of:
- Endpoint Protection: EPP, EDR, XDR (FortiEDR, FortiXDR)
- Zero Trust Access: ZTNA (FortiClient, FortiOS, FortiGate) + Identity (FortiAuthenticator, FortiToken)
- Network Security: Next-generation Firewall (FortiGate + FortiGate-VM)
Fortinet intends to expand its portfolio of FortiTrust security as a service services to further develop the secure remote operation model from anywhere in the world, which offers optimized consumption and unified licensing models that take into account how companies conduct business in an era of work from anywhere in the world. Unlike complex licensing, which includes a combination of device fees and the cloud, FortiTrust combines everything within a single user license.
Remote security is optimized through threat analysis based on/ AIML FortiGuard Labs - a Fortinet threat analysis and research organization cyber security that develops and leverages technologies artificial intelligence machine learning and provides customers with protection and online threat information in a timely and ongoing manner. FortiGuard Labs continuously monitors the global surface of attacks with millions of network sensors and hundreds of information-sharing partners. The result of this effort is the timely receipt of operational information about threats, which optimizes Fortinet's ability to adjust security based on the location, device, and application to which users are trying to connect.
