2020: The Chinese company GW will launch 13 thousand satellites

In October, 2020 it became known of the solution of the Chinese company GW to launch about 13 thousand satellites to compete with SpaceX, OneWeb and Amazon. The request for providing permission to use of a radio frequency spectrum necessary for work of two satellite groupings for distribution of the broadband Internet came to the International Telecommunication Union: GW-A59 (6080 devices) and GW-2 (6012 satellites).

It is about involvement of the following frequencies:

• 37.5-39.5 GHz (kosmos-Zemlya);
• 39.5-42.5 GHz (kosmos-Zemlya);
• 47.2-50.2 GHz (Zemlya-Kosmos);
• 50.4-51.4 GHz (Zemlya-Kosmos).

Professor of information systems of the Californian state university Larry Press paid attention to it. He as follows commented on desire of the Chinese company to compete with SpaceX, OneWeb and Amazon:

The SpaceX company aiming as soon as possible to begin to provide the services for end users first of all is guided by the high-profitable markets of North America then it, perhaps, will pay attention to Europe. The OneWeb company, most likely, will have good perspectives in the countries of Asia and Africa where there is already her cofounder of Bharti Global and also in Great Britain – as also the government of this country has the share in the company. And the GW company will have strong positions in those countries where China already develops projects from the Digital Silk Way series (DSR)".

According to the Press, among about 20 Chinese companies which are engaged in satellite communication, less than a third from them suggest to start satellite groupings. And most of them place emphasis on niche communications, such as Internet of Things. However the non-state Chinese companies by October, 2020 are only at an early stage of development, being engaged mainly researches and developments, the expert added.^[1]
