2022: Smart Patch Announcement for Diagnosis of Gastrointestinal Diseases
On June 16, 2022, Alimetry, a medical technology company, announced the release of a smart patch designed to diagnose stomach disorders. We are talking about Gastric Alimetry gastroanalyzer, which is a non-invasive test for common stomach disorders, including nausea and vomiting, gastroparesis and functional dyspepsia.
According to a press release, the use of the Alimetry gastroanalyzer is only done in a clinical setting. Records are made before and after meals. During the test, patients can view their symptoms on a companion mobile app. The wearable device captures the pattern of digestion from the surface of the skin and then provides clinical reports through the cloud, ultimately allowing the diagnosis of stomach diseases and the maintenance of personalized therapy.
The test is already on sale in the UK and New Zealand, starting in July 2022 it will be commercially available in the US. To promote its products in the American market, Alimetry has created a new company, the name of which has not been announced. Greg O'Grady, CEO and co-founder of Alimetry, argues that existing gastric tests are "often unreliable and inconclusive," patients undergo months or years of testing that is often costly, invasive and involves radiation exposure.
According to the company, Gastric Alimetry is a "rule-changing" tool that will bring more clarity to the area of stomach diagnosis, improve clinical outcomes and provide "safer, more accessible and less invasive treatment." Gastric Alimetry was the result of 10 years of work by doctors, engineers, designers and scientists, the company added. [1]
