2020: Announcement
At the beginning of April, 2020 at the Nizhny Novgorod state university of Lobachevsky (UNN) announced development of gel for long protection of hands against viruses and bacteria. It should help with fight against spread of a coronavirus of COVID-19.
The invention represents gel on the basis of colloid silver. It is capable to keep on hands till eight o'clock (or before gel is washed away by water) that is much more effective than normal antiseptic. On skin the protective film from the modified chitosan — natural polymer which is in a complex connected with colloid silver forms.
According to developers, colloid silver has antibacterial action, both on gram-negative, and on gram-positive bacteria and also antiviral action. Antibacterial properties are widely proved by a set of the international tests, the antiviral activity is studied on a human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis B virus, a virus of simple herpes, respiratory sintsitialnom a virus and a virus of monkey smallpox
For long effect and a broad spectrum of protection gel was nicknamed "liquid" gloves. UNN notes that use of metals in fight against viruses is very perspective direction as metals make impact on different weak spots of a virus. Besides, in comparison with normal antiviral therapy when using metals the chance of emergence of resilience of a virus is much lower.
The structure is patented, in the nearest future "gloves" should appear on counters of shops, reported in university at the beginning of April, 2020.
The technology was developed jointly by the staff of department of high-molecular connections and colloid chemistry of department of chemistry of UNN and Nizhny Novgorod Institute of traumatology and orthopedics based on the engineering center UNN.[1]
