2024: COMMX Device Presentation

Geoskan Group of Companies has developed its own high-speed radio transmitting device - COMMX. The company announced this on June 3, 2024. The product will allow transmitting data from small spacecraft to Earth in the amateur radio band of 10.45 GHz and at speeds up to 200 Mbps. Using this radio transmitter will allow you to send data from satellites hundreds of times faster than before.

In this development, various directions are connected: electronic engineers microwave electronics, high-speed circuits, FPGA and others. The device works according to the DVB-S2 standard, which has proven itself well in satellite television - after that they began to use it for, space communications transmitting any. data The standard defines the types of modulation and data coding, and the use of interference-resistant LDPC code brings the data transfer rate closer to the theoretical limit.

Radio communication technologies have achieved a very high level of development in recent decades. The same communication channels operating according to the DVB-S2 standard are already commonplace. However, few organizations make such devices, and their price is quite high. One of Geoskan's strategies is to expand our own knowledge and accumulate experience, and we ourselves were interested in understanding and creating COMMX, "said Dmitry Borovitsky, head of the MKA development department.

The high-speed transmitter was created specifically for the Geoscan 3U satellite platform, but the technology itself can be used in other projects of the company.

At the end of 2024, it is planned to launch five educational cubsats made in Geoskan. Universities are our customers, have developed an interesting scientific and technological payload for them. Some space experiments, such as hyperspectral shooting of the Earth, will require a large amount of data to be transmitted from orbit - this is where a high-speed transmitting modem will be needed. COMMX is especially important for the Lobachevsky spacecraft of the NNSU, which is created on the basis of the satellite platform of our company - Geoskan 16U. For us, this will be the first full-fledged DZZ apparatus developed for agroecology tasks in various regions of Russia: the satellite will photograph forests, fields, plant crops; after which high-resolution images will arrive on Earth for research by interested organizations, "added Alexander Khokhlov, head of the project department of the Geoscan MKA.
