2022: Launch of the first three-stage launch vehicle

On November 5, 2022, Iran successfully launched a launch vehicle designed to send satellites into orbit. Iran has carried out a suborbital test launch of a new three-stage Ghaem 100 solid fuel launch vehicle, according to Iran's state-run IRNA news agency. The Raketa carrier is designed to launch satellites weighing up to 80 kg into orbit about 500 km above the Earth.

Amirali Hajizadeh, the commander of the Guard's aerospace unit that developed the Ghaem 100, said the missile would be used to launch Iran's Nahid satellite intended for the telecommunications ministry, according to Aljazeera.

The test launch follows Russia's launch of an Iranian military spy satellite in August 2022, the first launch of a Zoljanah suborbital missile in 2021 and the first launch of its own military satellite in 2020 on a Qassad launch vehicle.

American officials are concerned about Iran's missile programs and argue that such space launch technologies could be used to develop ballistic missiles as long-range weapons. Tehran regularly denies having such intentions.

The launch of the launch vehicles "contradicts U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231, which calls on Iran not to take any action related to ballistic missiles" designed to deliver nuclear weapons, including launches using the technology of such ballistic missiles, "officials said.[1][1]
