Increase of flight range by 2 times
On July 19, 2023, the developers of the Russian drone Ghoul, designed for strikes deep in the front, reported an increase in its flight range by about half. At the same time, specific figures were not disclosed for security reasons.
The FPV drone "Ghoul" (First-Person View, "first-person view") has a quadcopter design with four bearing screws. It was developed by an unnamed enterprise in the Sverdlovsk region. The drone can perform various tasks, including being used to destroy enemy manpower.
According to TASS, in order to increase the range of the drone, its creators developed an air repeater "Extension." The solution provides an auto-fit function. It is emphasized that in terms of the frequencies involved, the Extension does not conflict with commercial unmanned aerial vehicles. Thus, the control signal is stable and the video communication quality is high.
The team created an air repeater "Extension," which increases the flight range by about half, we cannot indicate the exact mileage, as this can affect the safety of crews using our equipment, - said a representative of the manufacturer. |
In addition, it is said that their own video transmitter and video receiver, which are assembled in Russia, have been created for the complex. This system is designed to reduce the effectiveness of electronic warfare (electronic warfare), which can interfere with the performance of a combat mission. Resistance to electronic warfare is achieved, among other things, due to the possibility of changing the carrier frequency in the field: when interference is detected on the main channel, the drone switches to another.
Electronic warfare means are used on the line of combat contact, which reduce the tactical capabilities of using drones. Now, with the advent of our new video transmission system, most signal suppression equipment will become useless, the developer says.[1] |
Product Announcement
In Russia, they developed the Ghoul drone for strikes deep into the enemy's positions. This became known on May 4, 2023. The unmanned aerial vehicle was created by an enterprise in the Sverdlovsk region, while its name was not disclosed.
As a representative of the development company told TASS, Upyr is also intended to suppress the delivery of ammunition and the destruction of armored vehicles in closed positions. The drone can carry grenades to RPG-7, such as PG-7VL, hand-held RKG-3M anti-tank grenades, as well as high-explosive fragmentation charges made by the military directly at the front from epoxy glue and shot.
The main task of our development is to strike the enemy to tactical depth in order to isolate the combat zone. That is, we want to block the conditional square from the possibility of transporting ammunition, personnel and equipment in order to make fighting for the enemy as difficult and unbearable as possible. Another priority goal is tanks operating on us from closed firing positions, which hide from our calculations of ATGMs [anti-tank guided missiles] behind the folds of the area, the drone will be able to find such a target and also hit by diving from a height, - said the agency's interlocutor. |
The first batch of FPV drones (first-person view), partially created using 3D printers, was tested in a combat zone. The next batch will already be taking into account the feedback from the military, the producer points out.
According to the developers, the drone owes its name to "beautiful Russian fairy tales." The drone development project itself did not receive support from federal, regional or municipal authorities. Financing was carried out with the help of fees in the Telegram channels of pro-Russian "military commissars."[2]
