Google Content ID

Any file loaded into YouTube can be automatically blocked by the owner — for this purpose it is only necessary to provide Google a compressed sample video or audiocontent. But in Russia only the Russia Today TV channel uses such free system.

The Content ID system monitoring unauthorized loading of files in YouTube was started in October, 2007, and today more than one thousand owners around the world use it already. They transfer to the Google company owning YouTube service, compressed samples video and audiofiles which then are compared with all content which collected in YouTube and also with each new loaded file.

If the similarity of the file sample to the foreign file is established, the owner can block the last or ask Google to monetize it using advertizing. As Hekman reported, today more than 33% of monetized viewings for YouTube are the share of video revealed through Content ID. From here interest of Google in increase in number "partner content", an advertizing revenue shares between them and Google.

Owners can use Content ID also for collecting of free demographic statistics about the users watching them video. In YouTube more than one million files samples are saved already up, and daily a system scans video records total lasting more than 100 years. Hekman assured that owners are the winner, without risking anything: files samples contract in one thousand times, and therefore cannot be used by Google for commercial purposes.

Content ID can compare both a video series, and audio.

Spends several tens of seconds for verification of each new loaded Content ID file that does not influence loading speed. Needless to say, a system constantly should be scaled, YouTube is only five years, but in a system 24 hours of new content already every minute appear.

Every week YouTube is possible to monetize over one billion video files, and income from advertizing of the owners who signed partnership agreements with YouTube last year trebled. But, as report at the Russian office Google, distribution of Content ID in Russia is interfered so far by not only lack of awareness, but also impossibility for advertisers to perform payment through the Russian payment systems. This problem in Google is promised to be solved soon.
