2023: Recognition by the company of a marriage in which the lid is peeled off
In early June 2023, there were reports that the Google Pixel Watch could suddenly have its back cover peeled off - after just a few months of use. Google has already admitted marriage.
As noted by the Android Police resource, in most cases the problem manifests itself when removing the gadget from the charging unit: several users complained that the back cover of the watch simply fell off. This indicates a poor adhesive connection of the body elements.
The defect, according to preliminary information, is not widespread. In most cases, Google has replaced defective devices under warranty, but some watch owners say that repair shops demanded about $300 for repair.
iFixit specialists studied the design of the Google Pixel Watch and came to the conclusion that the back panel of the watch is held in place by means of a non-standard adhesive composition. The iFixit report, in particular, says that a "kind of liquid gasket" is used, which provides reliable sealing, but is removed without residue. It is with the use of this substance that the problem is associated. On the one hand, the adhesive composition simplifies the process of opening the watch body and performing repair work, and, on the other hand, leads to the possibility of arbitrary detachment of the rear panel. Concerns are also expressed that the "liquid gasket" in certain situations may provoke a deterioration in the moisture resistance of the gadget.
We know that a very small number of Google Pixel Watch users have had problems with the glass on the back. The team is working to determine the cause of the defect and eliminate it in a minimal time, Google officials said.[1] |
