Program system with the open code for cleaning, the analysis and conversion of data sets. Initially tools carried the name Freebase Gridworks, and the new option is released under the name of Google Refine 2.0. Software developer is the Metaweb company which Google purchased in July, 2010.
Google Refine helps to take useful information from data sets which may contain inaccuracies. For example, the application finds all options of writing of the same word and replaces them with right option.
Advantage of Gridworks is the universality — a system regularly maintains a large number of data types. In Google Refine there is language of expressions for the analysis of data sets. It allows to isolate subsets of data which then can be changed using conversion commands using filters. Software works with the simple text files broken into columns using commas.
In Google Refine 2.0 specialists of Google added a connectivity of records to external databases and implemented a number of new expressions and commands of conversion.
