Google officially abandoned Android Wear for smartwatch in favor of Wear OS

The slogan for Wear OS was "Make every minute matter," and the logo is chosen as the stylized letter W in Google's branded colors.

The company said that in 2017, every third hand-held computerized watch based on Android Wear  was used in conjunction with Apple smartphones. This was one of the reasons that prompted Google to remove the word Android from the name of its platform.

According to Asymco analyst Horace  Dediu, by September 2017, the total sales of smart watches based on Android Wear amounted to about 10 million units, while Apple Watch by that time had sold 33 million units.

The Android Wear operating system was created so that smart watches are available to everyone, regardless of the style of the user dressed or which smartphone (Android or iPhone) is in his pocket, "explained Dennis Troper.

According to him, together with the efforts of Gogole and the manufacturers of watches and electronics, more than 50 different models were created that have fitness functions and the ability to interact with users and display all the necessary information in the most convenient way.

It is expected that at Google I/O 2018 in May, the company will talk about the future of the Wear OS platform, and may also launch its own branded smartwatch on the market.^[1]
