Among features of storage systems of HP 3PAR of Utility Storage increasing efficiency of their application in cloud structures — hardware implementation of dynamic selection of resources of storage (thin provisioning); simultaneous support of workloads of different type and placement of data in disk arrays with a different performance; formation of virtual domains for isolation of these at the same time working users or applications; the high reliability provided with the multicoupling clustered architecture; scalability; effective remedies of virtualization.
Storage systems of HP 3PAR are a part of a portfolio of convergent infrastructure of HP. Their feature — existence of hardware implemented mechanism of calculation of placement of data on an array which — in interaction from the program Thin Conversion Software HP 3PAR komponenty system — provides fast reduction of volumes of storage due to identification and elimination of not used disk space.
Volumes for data storage on HP 3PAR arrays, at least, become 50% less, than for traditional arrays. In case of migration from traditional arrays on volume HP 3PAR with data are converted using new technology. As a result of the enterprise will be able to reduce the space occupied by storage systems in a data processing center and also to reduce energy consumption and at the same time to reduce costs of time for work on administration of arrays by 90%.
According to warranty conditions, the additional disk capacity, the auxiliary software and services of support in the volume corresponding to the half-received difference will be provided to all participants of the program who did not achieve 50% of reduction of need for storage capacity. (
The program of HP Get Thin Guarantee works worldwide; the corresponding services are offered by HP company and the authorized sales associates. Participants of the program can purchase any model of storage system HP 3PAR with the software of HP 3PAR of Thin Conversion and HP 3PAR of Thin Provisioning.
Convergent infrastructure of HP is a key component of model of the innovation enterprise. In the modern world of communications the model of the innovation enterprise includes all necessary technologies for providing a full-fledged work with consumers, partners, employees and other participants of process.
2011: CROC unrolled DWH of HP 3PAR in the Competence center
In August, 2011 CROC announced that in its Competence center the newest storage system of HP 3PAR which is created especially for virtualization and cloud computing is unrolled, and now corporate clients can test this solution. Key advantages of storage systems of HP 3PAR, by estimates of CROC, are high automation of procedures of management, dynamic selection of tanks of thin provisioning, automatic distribution of data between several levels of storage.
On October 21, 2011 the HP company announced that for the first three quarters from the moment of acquisition of company 3PAR in September, 2010 the number of the customers using storage systems of 3PAR Utility Storage grew up more than twice. Impressive growth of revenue of HP 3PAR in the third quarter – more than 100% in comparison with the same period of last year turned out to be a direct consequence of it.
2015: Storage systems of HP are supported VMware vSphere 6 and VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes technologies
On February 12, 2015 VMware announced a release of the new version of the VMware vSphere 6 virtualization platform. HP cooperated with VMware from the very beginning of the project of development of one of the major new products provided to vSphere 6 – Virtual Volumes technologies. All line of storage systems of HP 3PAR of StoreServ, including disk arrays of a middle and corporate class and also constructed on all-flash technology is already certified for work with vSphere 6 and Virtual Volumes. Also support of vSphere 6 in DWH of HP StoreVirtual, MSA and XP will be provided.
The vSphere Virtual Volumes technology allows virtual machines to use most effectively functionality of controllers of the disk array that leads to the best support of business applications and simplification of administration. For example, using vSphere Virtual Volumes customers can set the guaranteed service levels at the level of separate virtual machines, but not their groups. The administrator can set system politicians for automatic selection of resources to the most critical business applications, providing them required performance regardless of the changing workload generated by other virtual machines.
The majority of storage systems of other suppliers who are available in the market at present is not ready yet to implementation of this technology for this reason VMware selected StoreServ Storage HP 3PAR as the reference Fibre Channel platform for development of Virtual Volumes. According to VMware, HP has necessary experience which will help customers to implement advantages of the new version of vSphere 6 in DWH of HP 3PAR of StoreServ Storage.
Advantages to clients:
- From the very beginning of work on the project VMware used platform 3PAR as the only reference Fibre Channel platform. It guarantees that deployment of vSphere Virtual Volumes on DWH of 3PAR will be successful.
- Support of vSphere 6 and vSphere Virtual Volumes from day of the declaration on the existing and future platforms 3PAR at which the version of MU2 OS 3PAR 3.2.1 works above.
- Support up to 64,000 objects of Virtual Volume (1) and the built-in management tools service quality — all this allows to process much bigger amount of data on 3PAR array.
- Support of SLA and the purposes of service (SLO) for thousands of virtual machines without the need for any intervention of the administrator. Software of 3PAR Priority Optimization allows to place priorities and to manage VM taking into account required parameters of input-output, capacity or response time.
- The program interface vSphere API for Storage Awareness (VASA) allows to increase fault tolerance and to provide business continuity. Information which VM and applications exchange is reliably protected even in case of failure on the party of VASA provider. The module VASA is built in directly controller 3PAR therefore installation is not required.
- Reduction of requirements to capacity for vSphere Virtual Volumes for 75% or more, (2) as the Thin Provisioning, Thin Clone and Thin Deduplication HP 3PAR functions are integrated into software through vSphere API, and are hardwired using dedicated chips of ASIC of fourth generation.
- Decrease in operating costs and convenient control of servers, DWH, network and data protection on a basis the politician using the module of HP of OneView for VMware vCenter.
