2019: Support of CSI, Erasure Coding and multiaddress data centers

On October 17, 2019 it became known that the Commvault company provided the updated functionality of the solution Hedvig for software-defined storage. These improvements implement additional scenarios of its application and increase Hedvig value for customers.

The announced functions are developed on the basis of modern technologies of storage, containers and clouds. They will help the enterprises to automate the procedures of management of IT infrastructure performed manually and to simplify a hybrid cloud environment. The Hedvig functions automate and simplify administration of data, reduce the cost of storage and accelerate an investment payback. These are the following functions:

• Support of Container Storage Interface (CSI) thanks to which the enterprises will be able to use the solution of Commvault for management of Kubernetes and other orkestrator of containers.
• The built-in mechanisms of ensuring high availability of data centers helping the enterprises to provide protection of the data against failures and accidents.
• Support of the Erasure Coding mechanism improving efficiency of storage.
• Full support of multiaddress data centers. Including layer management of access for each of tenants, control and settings of enciphering using which providers can build solutions for storage in a hybrid cloud environment.
• Management of geographically distributed clusters with a possibility of obtaining notifications and reports generations. Using this function of the enterprise and service providers will be able to configure a configuration of the infrastructure of software-defined storage covering several data centers from one console and to manage this infrastructure.

It is in the future going to use Hedvig technologies for control automation improvement by given and to expand support of containers of applications and microservices.
