2021: Recall of shampoos in which cancer-causing benzene is found
On December 21, 2021, it became known that Procter & Gamble recalls aerosol sprays for dry shampoos and conditioners of different brands sold in the United States, after detecting benzene in some of them, which can potentially cause cancer.
The recall concerns products manufactured in the United States under the brands P&G Aussie, Herbal Essences, Pantene and Waterless, the Cincinnati consumer goods conglomerate said in a statement published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The review also includes previously discontinued aerosol dry shampoos from Hair Food and Old Spice brands.
Exposure to benzene, classified as a carcinogen for humans, can lead to the development of cancer, including leukemia blood cancer and bone, brain as well as life-threatening diseases. blood
Daily exposure to benzene in recalled products at levels identified during our testing is not expected to cause adverse health effects, P & G. said. |
Recalled products were distributed to retail and online stores across the country. P&G brands will offer a refund to those who have purchased recalled goods that should be refused, the company said.
Benzene is not part of any P&G products, but the check revealed unexpected levels of carcinogen in the propellant that pushes the product out of the cylinder, the company said.
According to P&G, the company began testing its aerosol products after recent reports found traces of benzene in some of them.
The vast majority of P&G products, including liquid shampoos and liquid conditioners, are not subject to recall.[1]
