2025: Lawsuit against Hisense: Company accused of selling quantum dot TVs that don't have quantum dots
The Chinese company Hisense is facing a class action lawsuit in the United States over inaccurate claims about quantum dot technology in its TVs, which are also part of the manufacturer's U-series. According to a lawsuit filed Feb. 25, 2025, in the District Court for the Southern District of New York, the manufacturer misled buyers by claiming to have advanced technology that is virtually absent from a number of models.
Among the controversial devices are the lines of QD5, QD6, QD65, QD7, U7 and U7N, officially presented on world markets, including Russia. According to Classaction.org, the plaintiff is Robert Machioche, who purchased the 43-inch Hisense QD5 TV in November 2024. In promotional materials, this TV was positioned as a device equipped with "QLED Quantum Dot Color Technology," which "significantly increases color saturation for everything you watch." The buyer paid $160 for the device, and the main reason for buying it was the presence of QLED technology, which promises better image quality and brighter colors compared to standard TVs.
Quantum dot technology (QLED) is a separate screen layer containing semiconductor nanocrystals that emit light of a certain wavelength as an electric current passes through them. These nanocrystals are designed to improve color reproduction and image brightness. Samsung was the first to bring this technology to the market.
In a 29-page lawsuit, Machioche alleges that Hisense, through its website and retailers' websites, made false claims about the presence of "quantum dot" technology on TVs. In his opinion, this technology was either completely absent or was not implemented sufficiently to significantly improve image quality, as promised in advertising.
The key question of legal action is to determine the "significance" of improving image quality using "quantum dots." It is assumed that the decision on what means the word "significant" in this context will be made by a jury, which the plaintiff and his lawyers insist on.[1]
2023: Hisense U6KQ, U7KQ и U8KQ
Hisense on October 11, 2023 presented to Russian consumers additional models of Mini-LED TVs.
Hisense UXKQ is presented in two diagonals: 65 and 85 inches. The image on this TV is always of high quality, regardless of the content and external lighting. This picture is born thanks to several technologies. One of them is the Mini-LED X backlight, which has even smaller LEDs, which means that their number and density are higher. This increases the number of local darkening zones (1456 in models 65 ', 5184 in models 85') for the most accurate backlight control. As a result, black becomes deeper at a high level of overall brightness, and the image is clear and contrasting. Up to 20,000 LEDs, peak brightness up to 2500 nits and a rich black color allow you to see even a snowflake on the hero's clothes in the frame.
Dynamic X-Display image optimization eliminates glare and glare, leaving the image contrasting and bright despite viewing angle and time of day.
Powered by Hisense Hi-View Engine X technology, the processor not only takes control of the TV, but also optimizes and improves picture quality based on lighting, and the 16-bit algorithm provides up to 65,536 brightness levels for breathtaking images and truly unforgettable viewing experiences.
Along with a great image comes a good sound. The 4.1.2 system, specially designed side speakers and built-in subwoofer create surround powerful sound that fills the entire space. There is WiSA Ready certification.
The Hisense UXKQ model has a stand with 2 possible options for the position of the legs: wide or close to each other, depending on the size of the surface for installing TV.
The updated series includes U6KQ, U7KQ and U8KQ models. Mini-LED PRO technology in U7KQ and U8KQ TVs has 10 times more darkening zones compared to previous generation models. Tight grouping of LEDs increases the accuracy of the backlight and improves contrast control. The peak brightness in U8KQ is up to 1500 nits, in U7K - up to 1000 nits, and in U6KQ - up to 600 nits. All models are equipped with Quantum Dot technology, as a result of which genuine shades and bright colors appear before the viewer.
Dolby Vision Atmos support, proprietary IMAX image quality and immersive sound will not leave movie fans indifferent. Dolby Vision IQ technology, thanks to complex algorithms, adapts brightness and color temperature to ambient lighting. With support for all major HDR video formats, including Dolby Vision HDR10, HDR 10 + and HLG, you no longer have to worry about compatibility issues. Choose and play the content you like, enjoying the perfect details, improved colours and deep dark shades.
The presented Hisense Mini-LED TVs will also be an excellent gaming solution. Game Mode PRO's low-latency professional game mode combined with 144Hz refresh rate provide smooth gameplay for wins. Moreover, the Hisense U7KQ and U8KQ models support HSR mode, which accelerates the refresh rate to 240 Hz. And Dolby Vision technology makes the image in games clearer, not allowing you to miss a single detail of the game. The U6KQ and U7KQ models support the Game bar, which shows reports on refresh rates and input latency in real time. And also, without breaking away from the game, you can easily change the size and position of the image.
The operating system of the UXKQ, U6KQ, U7KQ and U8KQ models is an updated VIDAA U7, which has become even more reliable and secure. It is intuitive to use and provides viewers with apps and extensive content for different tastes.
2020: Hisense U7QF
On July 30, 2020, Hisense introduced Hisense U7QF TVs (50 and 55 inches diagonals) with 4K resolution support, which provide depth and detail thanks to 33 million pixels, which, according to the manufacturer, is 2 times more compared to 2K TVs and 4 times more compared to FHD TVs.
According to the developer, Hisense 4K AI Upscaler technology provides clear and detailed 4K quality images, regardless of the original content resolution. To adjust the contrast ratio of each image, Hisense Full Array Local Dimming technology is one of the features of these TVs. This technology is capable of transmitting contrast images thanks to the support of several local darkening zones in the DLED panel. This solution, in turn, makes it possible to view dark and bright scenes and see all the details. The second feature of this series of TVs is the presence of quantum dot technology, thanks to which richer and brighter colors are transmitted for greater realism and immersion in viewing. The recommended price for this model is from 40,000 to 45,000 rubles, depending on the diagonal.
In the updated 2020 Hisense TV line, Laser TV 100L5F will also be available to customers. This is a TV with a 100-inch screen, full 4K resolution, HDR support, an updated version of the 4th generation VIDAA U Smart TV and sound with Dolby Atmos technology, Hisense emphasized.
