Honeywell Experion Orion Console

The Experion Orion console is the new interface for industrial control system of Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) who increases efficiency of the operator, broadening the sphere of his responsibility. Big screens of ultrahigh permission provide flexibility of configuration of information items, the advanced approach to information display allows to add operational data to survey screen forms, and accounting of a context at data mapping, expanded management of alarm signals and advantages of use of the touchpad give the chance literally one look to estimate the current technology situation. The combination of these advanced technologies to ergonomic design increases efficiency of control over a situation and allows the operator to react to the changing conditions quicker.

The Experion Orion Console is part of Honeywell’s initiative to shape control rooms of the future. The console increases operator effectiveness over a greater scope of responsibility by providing faster response, reducing fatigue, and increasing situational awareness.

Experion Orion Console uses a combination of technologies to increase situational awareness and enable faster response to changing conditions:

• Large ultra-high definition screens allow flexible layouts of overview and detail displays as well as related applications and video.
• Advanced Display Technology integrates operating limits and targets directly into overview displays for at-a-glance status assessment and process operation closer to the optimum.
• Predetermined displays for context-specific process issues, advanced alarm management, pan and zoom and touchpad capability allow better prevention and analysis of abnormal situations.

The new Experion Orion Console converts the process operator into a ‘profit’ operator. The combination of ergonomics and advanced display technology means:

2018: The new version for IIoT-dispatching offices

In May, 2018 Honeywell submitted the new version of the console for dispatching Experion Orion. The first the technology was tested by the Finnish company Riikinvoima specializing in questions of resuming of energy.

Operators of the enterprises, as a rule, monitor production process using several small screens on which information from one source is displayed. In the Experion Orion console several small screens are replaced with two large with high resolution. It creates a uniform working space which helps to increase the level of awareness of the operator. The working interface represents the touchpad with the updated graphical interface that does management process quicker and more intuitively, than, for example, by means of the keyboard and a mouse, speak in Honeywell.

Honeywell provided the console optimized under IIoT for dispatching offices

Riikinvoima implemented the new console at incineration plant in Leppyavirt (Finland) and noted that the technology allowed to expand scope of industrial Internet of Things. The Finnish company connected to Experion Orion several applications for monitoring and setup of the boilers.

In Riikinvoima start of the new console allowed to standardize processes thanks to the fact that any changes in plant operation are visible to the operator of dispatching office at once. It, in turn, improves work of employees as they can quickly eliminate the allowed defects.

It is noted that the console is created according to ergonomic standards and medical requirements and allows the operator to work both sitting, and standing. The mobile tablet is completely integrated with Experion Orion thanks to wireless communication. It gives the chance to the operator freely to move, saving complete awareness on technology process.^[1]
