Start of sales
At the end of November 2021, sales of the Hummer EV electric car were announced. The first buyers will be able to get the car in December 2021. This was announced by the head of General Motors Duncan Aldred. According to him, about 125 thousand people showed interest in Hummer EV, about half of them made a pledge of $100.
80% of pre-orders belong to the Edition 1 model, which will begin deliveries before the rest. This is the most expensive model, the price of which in the basic configuration reaches $110, 295. Later models will be cheaper, for example, deliveries of the Hummer EV2 model are expected to start in 2024. The cost of the car in the basic configuration will be about $80 thousand. The first copy of the electric pickup truck, according to General Motors, will be received by the winner of the auction, who posted $2.5 million for it. The company intends to direct the funds raised to charity.
The real range of the Edition 1 was slightly lower than originally assumed - it is almost 530 km. Earlier, General Motors said that an electric car will be able to travel distances of 560 km without recharging.
In total, no more than 10 thousand electric vehicles will be produced in the Edition 1 configuration. A power plant with a capacity of 1000 horsepower will allow the vehicle to accelerate to 100 km/h in about three seconds. The owner of the car will be able to replenish the charge by 160 km of the range in ten minutes under the condition of using the original charging station with a capacity of 350 kW with an operating voltage of 800 V.
General Motors will invest $35 billion by 2025 in the development of electric and unmanned vehicles and plans to launch 30 fully electric models around the world by 2025. According to GM, later on Factory Zero, production of more affordable modifications of the electro-pickup truck will begin - Hummer EV3x, Hummer EV2x and Hummer EV2.[1]
Hummer EV SUV presentation. Price - up to $110.6 thousand.
In early April 2021, GMC introduced an electric SUV with a range of up to 480 km and with a retail price of up to $110.6 thousand. The new model, called GMC Hummer EV SUV, will enter the market in 2023.
The new SUV was created on the platform of the GMC Hummer EV electric pickup truck shown at the end of 2020, but differs from it by a new body type. Technically, both models are unified, but at the same time the pickup truck is more powerful and has a larger range. It is known that the electric road will enter the market in several versions, and the range, depending on the option, will be 400 km, 450 km and 480 km.
As in the case of a pickup truck, the $90 thousand and higher SUV includes the Crab Walk mode, which allows Hummer to rotate all four wheels to move diagonally at low speeds, and the Extract Mode, which uses an air suspension system to lift the entire car to a height of six inches from the ground to overcome large obstacles. The car is also equipped with a 13.4-inch touch display on the center console and a 12.3-inch digital dashboard.
The Hummer electric and SUV will be the first cars built on the new Ultium modular electric battery platform from GM, which, according to the company, will provide power from 50 to 200 kWh and a range of up to "400 miles or more." In pickups, the Ultium platform will include 800-volt batteries and the ability to quickly charge up to 350 kW, which is equivalent to 100-mile charging in 10 minutes; in SUVs, fast charging is limited to 300 kW. Cars will also be equipped with an advanced second-generation Super Cruise driver assistance system, which allows you to drive a car on the highway without the help of hands.[2]
2020: Announcement of the Hummer EV electric car
On October 20, 2020, the presentation of the first electric car under the Hummer brand took place. The novelty, created by General Motors, uses a modular platform that the American concern specifically developed for its next-generation electric vehicles.
Hummer EV will be sold in several versions. The flagship version is the 1015-horsepower Edition One with three engines (one in front and two in rear) and a non-rechargeable power reserve (a station with a voltage of up to 800 V and a power of 350 kW is supported) up to 560 km. Later, other versions will enter the market - a three-engine 810-horsepower EV3X with a range of up to 480 km, a two-engine 635-horsepower EV2X with a range of up to 480 km and a basic two-engine EV2 with a 635-horsepower power plant and a range of up to 400 km, but without a fully controlled chassis and with spring suspension.
Hummer received a circular viewing system UltraVision consisting of 18 cameras, including two mounted under the bottom, allowing you to preliminary assess the relief under the wheels or the complexity of obstacles overcome. You can display "off-road widgets" on the multimedia system screen and digital dashboard: torque values on wheels, inclination angles, differential blocking levels and a graph with tyre adhesion limits.
The electric car was equipped with the Super Cruise proprietary semi-automatic control system. Electronics can fully control the steering, accelerator and braking system while driving along the main line.
The top version of Hummer EV will appear on the market first - in the fall of 2021. The price of such a modification is $112 595. A year later, three-engine Hummer EV will appear with an 811-horsepower power plant and a reduced battery at a price of $99 995, in 2023 a pickup truck with two engines will enter the market (it will be $10 thousand cheaper[3]
