2025: Car fires due to faulty wiring
On December 23, 2025, Hyundai Motor America (a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company) announced the recall of 51,587 Tucson crossovers in the United States. The reason for the recall campaign is the potential risk of fire due to faulty wiring.
According to a recall report released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the problem occurred with the Hyundai Tucson 2022, 2023 and 2024 vehicle models. It consists in insufficient tightness of the optional trailer wiring control module, which was installed on cars in the ports of the importing country or at official dealers.
Moisture ingress into this module can lead to electrical malfunctions. Among the possible consequences is the failure of overall lights or brake lights, which increases the risk of a traffic accident. In rare cases, overheating, melting of components or ignition are possible.
At the time of the recall announcement, Hyundai confirmed three incidents related to the fire in the United States. There were no reports of injuries or accidents caused by this malfunction.
As part of the recall campaign, the automaker will carry out a free replacement of the wiring control module with a new, more sealed version. Official notifications to owners of affected cars will begin to be sent out in February 2026.
Before repairs are carried out, the company recommends that owners park cars in open areas, away from buildings and other structures. You can check whether a specific car is included in the recall list by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the official website of Hyundai or NHTSA.
According to Autoblog, the Hyundai Tucson is the brand's best-selling car in the United States. As of October 2025, 188,275 units of this model have been sold since the beginning of the year. This is the second recall of the crossover associated with the risk of fire. The previous campaign, announced in 2024, affected the 2023 model year cars. Its cause was the potential overheating of the electric oil pump, which could lead to a fire in the engine compartment. During that campaign, the company also recommended owners park cars on the street.[1][2]

42,000 vehicle recall due to transmission wiring issues
At the end of November 2024, Hyundai announced the recall of more than 42,000 cars due to wiring problems in transmissions, which caused parked cars to start from the place without a driver's command.
6,900 Hyundai Santa Cruz and 35,500 Hyundai Tucson 2025 vehicles are subject to recall. It is estimated that the gearbox defect affected about 1% of cars, but all cars are subject to inspection.
| Owners can continue to use the car, but they are advised to use the parking brake when parking, according to employees of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. - When contacting the centers of the company, dealers must fix the problem for free. |
The problem was first discovered in late October, when Hyundai Motor's North American branch received a report on the unexpected movement of a parked Hyundai Tucson 2025. In early November, the cause of this phenomenon was revealed, and it became clear that wiring problems could affect not only Tucson cars, but also the Santa Cruz model. This prompted the North American Security Decision Making Authority to conduct additional inspections and recall the affected vehicles. Hyundai said it had not received any reports of injuries, deaths, crashes or fires related to cars already sold.
The company also recalled more than 145,000 Genesis and IONIQ electric vehicles. The recall was due to the fact that the integrated charging control units (ICCUs) of the cars failed and did not allow the battery to be charged. Dealers will have to check and replace the ICCU and its fuse as needed, and update the ICCU software. All repair work will be carried out free of charge.[3]
