The Power Development Platform (PDP) platform offered within the affiliate program of IBM PartnerWorld via the www.ibm.com/partnerworld/pdp portal provides to developers of the whole world remote access to resources of servers IBM on the basis of the latest Power7 and Power7 processors + with operating systems Linux, AIX and IBM i.
Users get access to the same hardware platform – IBM Power Systems – which, together with Linux, manages solutions for cognitive calculations on the basis of the innovative technology of IBM Watson. As a part of PDP a new transferable image of Linux with the software of IBM DB2 10.x, IBM WebSphere 8.5.5 and the newest building tools of the Linux-applications for the Power platform. PDP also serves as "point of entry" in the complete IBM Software Group Software Access Catalog directory which contains the current versions of hundreds of software applications of IBM, available to loading.
Before start PDP IBM offered virtual access to the Power servers by means of an on-line resource under the name Virtual Loaner Program. Considering the growing interest, especially from Linux developers, IBM within the last several months cardinally reviewed and improved this program.
IBM expects growth of interest in a new resource from Linux developers, many of which look for or already use more powerful modern servers which are specially created for support of a new wave of the opened applications for joint work intended for management and processing of "Big Data", mobility, social interaction.
The main innovations and improvements implemented in the new PDP platform included increase in power of the provided resources, additional building tools of the Linux-applications, advanced opportunities of navigation for reservation of resources and deeper integration with social media for improvement of information support of users.
