Product
The name of the base system (platform): IBM Rational DOORS
Developers: IBM
Technology: SaaS - Software as service,  Development tools of applications

IBM Rational DOORS Web Access allows all concerned parties, including managers, developers, the staff of quality control department, suppliers and clients it is easy to create, develop and check requirements using the web browser. It helps to avoid errors at an early development stage of a product. Also there is an opportunity to add new requirements, to edit or analyze already existing. Thus different division of development team can be territorially far apart, and still effectively work on one project. At the same time it is not required to set specialized software, only one web browser suffices. The expansibility of the project is reached because a significant amount of independent users can be connected to a repository of requirements.

Create, analyze and discuss requirements in the project from any place in the world

The project success in the company with divisions in different corners of the world in many respects depends on that, different divisions how successfully will be able to work on the general set of requirements. IBM Rational DOORS Web Access allows to create, discuss, edit and analyze requirements to all concerned parties in project development. A key role is played here by simplicity and speed of work with requirements in the DOORS database.

Joint work in the organization becomes simpler thanks to a uniform repository of requirements

Directly Rational DOORS offers a many-sided desktop working environment for system engineers and business analysts for requirements management and their interrelations. Rational DOORS Web Access in return, gives the chance to interested persons to see all available requirements, their interrelations and also an opportunity to change and edit these requirements directly in a repository. Using access to a repository via the web browser users can also change requirement descriptions (including texts of descriptions, communications of objects, the built-in objects and tables), attributes of descriptions (standard and appointed users) and interrelations of requirements.

In the course of evolution of requirements important that all concerned parties (business clients, analysts, managers, system engineers, developers and testers) were involved in development process at earlier stage. And that at the same time all of them could keep track of interrelations between requirements.

IBM Rational DOORS Web Access helps with joint work and use of requirements in development process by providing access to requirements which contain in the Rational DOORS database via the web browser. Rational DOORS Web Access is available in two options of use: for the reviewer of requirements and for the editor. The reviewer has full access to reading, the analysis and discussion of requirements in DOORS base while the editor can change already existing requirements, add new and create bidirectional communications at requirements.

Dissemination of data on requirements is made very simply as Rational DOORS Web Access the web supports a standard format of coding of the addresses - Url.Trebovaniya can be also transmitted through normal e-mail and then are browsed or using Rational DOORS Web Access or Rational DOORS software (if the last is set by the working machine).

That it was simpler to users to be guided in the database with requirements of Rational DOORS Web Access has intuitive hints on navigation. A way to documents in the form of "grain crumbs" and the list of the popular or recently browsed documents allow the user to find necessary information in base quickly. Users can open several documents or even several parts of one document in different windows which can be moved on the screen within a browser window. All attributes of the requirement are displaid by a column sideways from the requirement, or for separate requirements - in a separate window.

Rational DOORS Web Access allows users to find quickly data in the module using navigation on modules. It allows to give more time to data analysis, but not their search. Besides, if there is a need to use data out of the database, development teams can print the selected requirements together with all necessary attributes.

Ample opportunities of Rational DOORS for discussions

In development process often there is a need to discuss the set requirements on purpose more precisely to understand tasks or to correct the purposes. Rational DOORS Web Access allows open at the same time several subjects for discussions on each requirement in which several users can leave the comments. Each comment is marked with a name of the commentator, date and time of the comment. When discussion comes to the end, the branch with discussions can be closed.

How it works

IBM Rational DOORS Web Access uses Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology which is based on "zero-install" the client who is performed together with Microsoft Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox web browsers. Rational DOORS Web Access server components can be unrolled on different architecture that gives the expanded access to the database using Apache Tomcat of the application server.
