2020: Announcement

At the end of January 2020, it became known about the launch of the Datamania platform, developed by IDX and allowing Russians to earn money by selling their data. The Internet Initiatives Development Fund (IIDF) and the Israeli investment fund Human Digital Capital invested 50 million rubles in this project. The total investment in Datamania in three years will amount to 250 million rubles.

Datamania users will be able to control access to their personal data and earn money by providing companies with consent to use them, IDX CEO Svetlana Belova told Kommersant.

According to her, the platform will provide companies with descriptions of the types of data that users have, and in case of interest will send a request for acquisition for a fee. It can be either monetary - according to the cashback scheme, or in the form of bonuses or discounts.

To use the service, you will need to register on the platform and indicate your accounts in social networks and other services. The platform will tell the business what data users have (for example, geodata or purchase history). If the company is interested, it will send a purchase offer to the user.

Belova claims that companies are ready to pay from 20 to 200 rubles for different categories of data. The service will receive a commission of about 15% of the turnover.

By the end of January 2020, Datamania signed several contacts with large personal data operators, which "confirms the interest of business," Sergei Alimbekov, director of the IIDF for technological development, told the publication.

Earlier, the IIDF proposed amendments to the legislation that would allow the free circulation of "depersonalized" user data. According to the fund, each user will be able to earn about 60 thousand rubles a year on their data.[1]
