In St. Petersburg, presented a robocomplex for the processing of medical implants. We are talking about the development of ITMO University, the university said in early October 2023.

According to scientists, they created a unique robocomplex, which allows you to process and label medical devices of different shapes and sizes. Thus, with the help of development, implants can be given antibacterial and biocompatible properties. To implement the idea, it is enough to load the 3D model of the implant into a special program, set the processing path and select the mode.

In addition, the authors of the work noted that the methods for treating the surface of implants existing by 2023 are quite expensive. Also, when some properties are improved, they can reduce the effectiveness of others. The development of ITMO allows you to obtain medical devices at once with all the necessary properties.

Antibacterial properties are imparted by an oxide layer of titanium, and biocompatibility of the implant can be achieved due to the relief with special geometry. The roughness of the article is varied by laser technology removing residual particles from the surface. And the marking allows you to apply the company logo.

According to ITMO University, by the beginning of October 2023, in vitro (on cells) and in vivo (on living organisms) experiments were carried out in partnership with colleagues from Samara State Medical University. The robocomplex is especially relevant for manufacturers of individual titanium implants, for example cranial implants, jaw membranes, kneecaps. He copes even with complex forms and knows how to "make his way" to hard-to-reach zones. The preparation of the program takes several hours, the processing time of one product depends on the complexity and size, on average it is 10-15 minutes.[1]
