2025: Russian dentistry begins to use caries treatment technology without drilling

In 2025, in the Orenburg region, a technology for the treatment of tooth decay without the use of a drill and anesthesia was introduced into dental practice. This was announced in January 2026 by the vice-governor - deputy chairman of the regional government for social policy Larisa Boyarskaya.

The technology used, called Icon, is designed to treat initial and superficial caries. According to Larisa Boyarskaya, the method is based on infiltration - impregnation of damaged areas of enamel with a special composite material. The substance penetrates the pores of the affected tissue and blocks the development of the disease. Larisa Boyarskaya added that the procedure excludes painful sensations, since it does not require drilling and anesthesia.

According to the description of the innovative method of treatment, only carious areas of enamel are exposed. Experts claim that the technology stops the development of tooth decay, while improving the aesthetics of teeth.

At the same time, in dental clinics, according to Larisa Boyarskaya, the use of artificial intelligence systems for analyzing digital X-rays has begun. The professional system examines 2D and 3D images, revealing the slightest deviations in the condition of teeth and bone tissue. This allows you to diagnose diseases in the earliest stages.

The third innovation was computer anesthesia. The system accurately calculates the dose and controls the rate of administration of the analgesic. This minimizes discomfort during the injection and reduces the drug load on the patient's body. "Computer anesthesia is an effective tool of modern healthcare, contributing to improving the quality of medical care and increasing the level of comfort of patients," summed up Larisa Boyarskaya.^[1]
