2018: Announcement
In November, 2018 Google offered developers the API interface for forced updating of applications in Android. Such function will allow to save relevance of the software especially when there is a crucial update.
The technology under the name In-app Updates API is provided within the conference for Android Dev Summit developers.
We heard that you would like to receive more management tools in order that users had the last and best version of your application — the director of product management in the field of Android Stephanie Katbertson (Stephanie Cuthbertson) says, addressing developers in the blog. — To solve this problem, we start In-app Updates API. We test this API on the first partners and we will soon start it for all developers. |
Such API should help developers to solve serious problems if they released applications with big errors. Also by means of a new solution it is possible to force users to set the freshest application version if the set of new features which developers want to make available to all is provided in it.
However, the advantage of In-app Updates API will be not always. There are cases when owners of smartphones and tablets do not want to update the program because some function necessary for them is removed the new version or the inconvenient interface is used.
Google notes that developers will be able to configure completely flows of updates according to the interface of their applications. It means that there will be no same practice of updating for all applications.[1]
Developers will be able to select the most suitable option depending on that how emergency updating is. Flexible process of updating will allow to continue use of the application while the new version is loaded.
