Infinera Cloud Xpress

Cloud Xpress is family of platforms for city optical networks.

On September 22, 2014 the Infinera company submitted the Cloud Xpress platform for city cloud networks.

The solution is developed for the network operators providing cloud services to end users and the enterprises. The platform is optimized especially for city cloud networks - the transport networks connecting several data centers within city network. Cloud Xpress simplifies deployment of new connections with high capacity, reduces the needs for power supply of the equipment and space for its placement, simplifies scaling of city cloud networks.

In process of implementation of "clouds" large network operators note improbable increase in volumes of the incoming traffic. One request of the user can generate the total amount of traffic between DPCs which is 10-multiply exceeding the volume of the traffic which is contained in a request. This effect causes the need for operational deployment of transport networks of high capacity within city cloud networks.

Cloud Xpress

The compact modular Cloud Xpress platform is developed especially for the solution of such tasks. Infinera considers Cloud Xpress the platform, the first in the market, integrating simplicity in operation, high capacity and low power consumption.

Advantages

• Density with high degree of scalability - Cloud Xpress provides input-output capacity at the level of 1 Tbit / with in one device in 2RU form factor, at the capacity of interfaces from the trunk up to 500 Gbps and a possibility of support of several types of client interfaces (10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE). For the network operators feeling the need for scaling of city cloud networks at a limited number of space under the equipment, Cloud Xpress proposes the solution with the characteristics, best in the industry: the platform provides unprecedented capacity at the level of 21 Tbit / with when using 42 RU racks.

• Simplicity of operation. Cloud DPCs use other model of operation, than central nodes of traditional telecom operators. The Cloud Xpress platform has a form factor, optimal for a clustering, and supports new approach to operation on the basis of software. It together allows it to be connected to the existing systems of providing cloud infrastructures via the open interface API of SDN networks. Because the platform by the principle of use and some characteristics reminds architecture of server environments and environments of data storage in "cloud", Cloud Xpress guarantees smooth integration into the existing operation processes, providing to operators of cloud networks operational scaling of networks, decrease in quantity of errors because of a human factor and operating costs.

• Low energy consumption. Cloud Xpress consumes twice less energy, than similar solutions of the competitor leading in the market of products of city cloud networks.

Availability

For September 22, 2014 the Cloud Xpress platform passes test. It is possible to issue the preorder for December, 2014.

2015

Arista Networks and Infinera also organized technology alliance

On May 18, 2015 companies Infinera and Arista Networks, Inc. announced the organization of technology alliance which activity purpose - "turnkey" creation of scalable solutions for city and regional cloud^[1].

The joint interoperable solution is based on integration of a line of the Arista 7000 switches into the Infinera Cloud Xpress platform and intended for the markets of DPCs and cloud networks.

there Was Cloud Xpress addition

On June 24, 2015 the Infinera company provided addition to a line of the city cloud products Cloud Xpress. The updated platform provides support of customer services of 100 GbE and new network features now, saving a compact form factor.

The Cloud Xpress family uses the optical integrated circuit Infinera oPIC-500 optimized for city networks. The platform having a compact form factor of 2RU provides DWDM transfer between DPCs from speed of 500 Gbit/c.

The new solution of Cloud Xpress with support of 100 GbE is characterized by the high density, ultrahigh scalability, lowered by energy consumption. Operators who need simplicity of implementation of the platform and ample opportunities of scaling of networks will be able to estimate these advantages. With the advent of this platform, the Cloud Xpress family supports client interfaces 10 GbE, 40 GbE and 100 GbE.

In the Cloud Xpress family the improvements including enciphering of MACsec for reliable protection, support of NETCONF & YANG for environments of the program configured networks (SDN) and simplification of use, the protocols of detection of LLDP providing automation of DPC are carried out.

According to experts, standard 100 GbE becomes available in switches of DPCs networks and the price falls gradually that does possible use in switches. It, in turn, stimulates increase in demand for client interfaces 100 GbE in the optical equipment for connection of city DPCs. The Infinera company supplies the equipment with interfaces 10 GbE and 40 GbE, and adding of the platform with support of 100 GbE to the Cloud Xpress family - the timely solution.
