Intel provided the Intel Evo brand

On September 2, 2020 during the global presentation Intel provided the Intel Evo brand for notebooks, developed and verified within the innovation program Intel Project Athena. The models created within this platform are equipped processors Intel Core with i7 or i5 of the 11th generation with graphics of Intel Iris Xe, have the interface of wire connection Thunderbolt 4 and the built-in wireless adapter Intel Wi-Fi of 6 (Gig+).

The notebooks submitting the Intel Evo platform are created to help users to solve the most important for them problems, minimizing delays, other irritating factors and dependence on battery power and there correspond to the second edition of specifications and key indicators of the user experience (Key Experience Indicators, KEI) the Project Athena programs.

Project Athena is a long-term program of development of innovations within which Intel creates conditions for development of the advanced notebooks and mobile devices. In 2019 Intel laid the technology foundation of the program and created infrastructure, necessary for its implementation. Having studied as people use notebooks for the solution of the real daily tasks, Intel developed the concept of key indicators of the user experience (KEI) allowing to measure characteristics of the models created within the Project Athena program. Unlike approach to measurements at which execution of separate tasks in controlled laboratory conditions is estimated Intel estimates accomplishment of real daily processes in a working environment.

In 2020 Intel updated testing methodology to bring closer even more it to real life. The second edition of specifications pays bigger attention to interaction between local and cloud tasks that reflects specifics of a modern flexible working environment better. Researches of Intel showed that most of people use several accounts in cloud services, along with the network applications started in the background - Chrome, Zoom, Spotify or Twitter. Intel also increased number of loadings by which characteristics of KEI, to 25, in comparison with 15 in the first edition of specifications are determined. It will allow the user to be sure that the verified notebooks have potential and technologies corresponding to the promised indicators when using in actual practice.

Intel Evo - Project Athena

All developments on the Intel Evo platform are checked for compliance to the following key indicators of the user experience (KEI):

  • uniform responsiveness during the work from accumulator (speed of the bonus notebook based on is measured OSWindows 10 at accomplishment of 25 workflows from several cloud and local applications and web pages);
  • exit from the dream mode less, than in 1 second;
  • 9 or more watch of independent operation of systems with FHD displays in actual practice (time necessary for discharge of the battery from the level of 100% to critical, at accomplishment of workflows in the standard environment consisting of several cloud and local applicaions and web pages);
  • up to 4 working hours of systems with FHD displays after less, than 30 minutes of fast charging (the minimum charge in 30 minutes from the moment of shutdown of the device after achievement of the minimum level of the charge set by the producer by default performance depends on the carried-out tasks, a configuration and other factors).

Testing for August, 2020 was held on notebooks with the accumulator of a direct current of ≥30% connected to a wireless network 802.11, at screen intensity 250 nit also with the standard configurations of the equipment delivered by the producer including Windows 10.

More than 150 partners of Intel, including the companies Acer Asus Dell Dynabook Google HP Innolux Lenovo Microsoft, Samsung and Sharp and many others, keep development of Project Athena initiative. Within this work Intel provided to partners the tool for automatic testing allowing to estimate, adjust and optimize design and construction of the notebook for performance improvement and battery life.

The notebooks which underwent verification will receive a special badge of Intel Evo. Until the end of 2020 an exit more than 20 verified models of notebooks under the Intel Evo brand, including Acer Swift 5 Asus Zenbook Flip S, Lenovo Yoga 9i and Samsung Galaxy Book Flex is planned 5G.
