2018: The announcement of a system and its integration with technologies of Intel
In October, 2018 Rolls-Royce provided the system of an auto pilot for the Intelligent Awareness ships and announced its integration with technologies of Intel.
Intelligent Awareness includes several cameras, lidars and radars which are connected to a single network and are controlled one program. Using algorithms of machine vision, this program defines obstacles along the line of the vessel and helps to set the directions in avoidance of collisions on water. And affirms that developers achieved exact recognition of different courts (from the walking boat to barges and the cruise liner).
The technology is especially useful at bad weather when navigation is complicated, or mooring when it is necessary to make maneuver in the difficult constrained conditions.
A system already began application in the robotic vessel Rolls-Royce, performing such functions as patrol, radar and sonarny control of the water area of the harbor, etc. Use of such floating transport allows to exempt from routine work of court with crews which will be able to undertake accomplishment of more difficult and complex tasks.
In fact it is eyes and ears of the ship. A system notifies on danger in real time — the director of ship investigation of Rolls-Royce Kevin Duffy (Kevin Daffey) said. |
On October 15, 2018 the company announced performance improvement of Intelligent Awareness due to connection of a system to the equipment of Intel. In particular, the agreement on use of the Intel Xeon processors Scalable and high-speed solid state drives which will store the data generated in volume up to 1 Tbyte a day is reached. Chips of Intel will process this information locally as vessels will not be able to unload data bulk in a cloud, yet will not come into docks, and on distant run several weeks will leave.[1]
