2024: Product Announcement

On June 27, 2024, Samsung Electronics announced the development of the world's first 200-megapixel image sensor for cameras with telephoto lenses, which are designed to be installed in smartphones. The product was called Isocell HP9.

The novelty has an optical format of 1/1.4 inches. In total, 200 million pixels of 0.56 microns each are involved. The resolution of images can reach 16 320 × 12 288 pixels. It is possible to record video materials in 8K (30 frames per second), 4K (120 frames per second) and Full HD (480 frames per second) standards. The operating temperature range ranges from -20 to + 85 degrees Celsius.

Thanks to the patented highly refractory microlenses made of the new material, it was possible to increase the aperture by accurately directing light to the corresponding color filters. This provides a brighter image with improved color reproduction and more accurate focus. Compared to similar solutions Samsung of the previous generation, light sensitivity increased by 12%, autofocus contrast - by 10%.

It is claimed that the Isocell HP9 sensor works perfectly in low light conditions, solving the general problem of traditional telephoto lenses. Tetra ² pixel technology combines 16 pixels (4 × 4 array) into one, which simulates a large 12-megapixel sensor with 2.24 μm pixels. Thus, you can take high-quality portrait pictures even in low light. Two-fold and four-fold scaling modes are implemented, which, in conjunction with a three-fold telephoto lens, allows you to achieve 12-fold zoom. The Isocell HP9 sensor is designed for use in premium smartphones. Samsung says the product sets new industry standards and extends technological[1]
