2023: Start of Deliveries
At the end of December 2023, the Chinese company JAC brought to the market the world's first electric vehicles with sodium-ion batteries, which, according to the developers, are cheaper and resistant to cold weather compared to traditional lithium-based batteries.
The new brand was named Yiwei, and the first model in this project was E10X. The novelty is a four-seater car equipped with a NaCR32140 battery manufactured by HiNa Battery with a capacity of 25 kVt·ch and an energy density of 120 Vt·ch/kg. The mass of the battery pack is about 210 kg. Battery power from 10 to 80% can be replenished in just 20 minutes.
The range of the electric car is declared at 250 km. 3C and 4C stations can be used to charge the sodium ion battery.
According to JAC, sodium-ion batteries are easier and cheaper to produce, and they provide high performance in winter weather, operating at almost full capacity in low temperatures up to − 30 ° C. An important advantage of sodium-ion batteries is to reduce environmental damage in the production and extraction of raw materials - unlike lithium.
JAC chairman Xia Shunli said sodium-ion batteries would complement LFP batteries and be a low-cost solution that would promote mass electric vehicles. With the worldwide need for rechargeable batteries consistently high, the development of new batteries that reduce consumer spending and environmental damage is only welcome.
Sales of JAC Yiwei EV will start in January 2024. The cost of the car ranges from $12,600 to $17,900, depending on the choice of configuration, which makes it a competitive offer in the segment of electric cars.[1]
